I’d rather them not come here. They made their choice. They need to face the consequences.

We need people who WANT to be at LSU.

I've always thought this is such a poor way of looking at things. I honestly couldn't care less how much a guy wants to be at LSU, as long as once he gets here he puts in the necessary work to represent LSU.

I think those two things can be separated. Just because a guy wants to be at LSU doesn't mean he will represent LSU the best, be the hardest worker, etc etc. It's a case by case basis.

Not to mention how excited we all got this offseason with the transfers we got. Those guys had made their choice before too.

The comment is being taken out of context. I don’t want people in the locker room just wanting handouts. I want people at LSU looking to buy into the culture that’s being cemented.

Lets not be naive. There are guys currently on the roster here because of the handouts they received. But like I said, as long as they put in the work to represent LSU once they're here, I'm good with it.

We all talked about it on here. Pate is great, he knows his stuff. We were saying this last year though when TAMU was doing this. It was going to hurt them in the locker room and those guys would enter the portal.

Okay. So by this logic LSU raiding the transfer portal this year means no connection to the school for them. Wut? What about the Arkansas guys we raided from their secondary. They were starters. You think they came to LSU just for the connection to the school and not $$$? Get a grip dude. What about Perkins? We had zero shot at him until near the final hour and all of a sudden he's happy with a big handout from LSU. I guess we should kick him off the team? What about Patrick Peterson who has a well known huge handout to come to LSU but ended up being one our best CBs ever? Wake up.

You can have a connection to a university but still want life changing money. These universities have made billions off the players without handing anything back. It's only fair they get their piece of the pie too. This is TAMU/USC's problem for getting sloppy. If you notice BK right now is pushing for high character players and I'm sure they're still getting their money too. Time will tell if it pays off but the point is, how you approach NIL will decide if you can stay on top, maintain it, or fall behind. This is why TAMU has been irrelevant for 30+ years. They have all that money and don't know how to lead in anything. They just take LSU's sloppy seconds.

I made a mention to that in a previous post. I’m not oblivious to the fact that we’re paying people large sums as well. But I do believe Kelly is establishing a culture that isn’t based on handouts.

Dumb.

The two situations are not alike at all.
Joe Burrow graduated from Ohio St, fought in a QB battle, didn’t win. Transferred as a graduate to seek another QB battle.

There were some posters on here that weren't thrilled with the prospects of Burrow's transfer because they felt LSU should go with one of the guys already on the roster. Of course, the majority of fans watched the spring game in 2018 and saw there were some BIG concerns at the QB spot

As for the NIL stuff, I hate to break it to you, but there have LONG been players that attended schools, including LSU, almost solely because of the financial "incentives" promised them. NIL has just kind of put that all out into the open. And with the fact there is so little regulation on the practice right now there is not a huge risk for guys taking the initial money.

Let's say you are a Louisiana prospect from a middle to low income family. (Boosters) of out of state school A is offering you a deal for life-changing money. More than what LSU is offering. That is very hard for a kid and his family to turn down.

He takes the money and attends the out of state school. There are no "contracts" with respect to the money. He essentially gets paid for his signature. Then, after year 1 let's say the kid doesn't like the school, his teammates, his coaches, his playing time, the town in which he lives, he misses his friends and family, or any number of reasons. The one free transfer rule then allows him to become a "free agent" for a second time. If he's good enough schools, including LSU, will pay. Now he's cashed in twice and, in many cases, hasn't played significant snaps.

He may have always "liked" LSU, but the money another school offered was too much to turn down. However, if he's good enough, he knows he could likely end up at LSU anyway if things don't work out at his first school. That's the way kids are looking at this.

Its pretty simple... Kids shouldn't sign a LoI without getting a contract for the money. The problem is that little Timmy from the Hood is being represented by Uncle Joe instead of a real agent with a law degree.

Can't sign a deal before Loi. Pretty sure that's against NCAA rules? It would be used for recruiting. Have to be on campus and signed before you can get NIL deals.

That line made me think back and cringe. What a TURNAROUND from that spring game to winning a NC in Jan 2020 with the best team that ever suited up in college football.

Can't wait to see what CBK accomplishes as we move forward.
