That rule will not hold up in court.
Yes it would. The SEC is a voluntary association. Members follow the rules or get out.

The Texas/Oklahoma exemption does appear to be true. They aren't SEC until July so he would be eligible to transfer there. Again SEC rule and the SEC made the decision(at least agreed to it) that those 2 schools aren't bound by SEC rules until then because they earn no share($) until that date.
The 2nd part is misleading. The May 1 deadline only applies to current SEC schools and in conference transfers. Texas/Oklahoma aren't current SEC members so their kids can transfer here and ours to them until July 1 which is after the deadline anyway.
The misleading part is that the article assumes people will infer the May 1 deadline for transfers within the SEC(the closed spring window essentially) only applies to those. It reads as if May 1 is the transfer deadline for fall sport eligibility in the SEC across the board which obviously isn't true or that the deadline applies to Texas/Oklahoma(this year)because they are headlined in the article.

That won’t stop anything. The courts have taken up plenty of cases involving voluntary associations in the past. Look at the NFL. They’ve been taken to court over the 3-years out of high school rule for entering the NFL draft.
Nobody has to play in the NFL. It’s a choice. There are other football leagues out there.

Matthews is a highest bidder player
He doesn't have a say.
He wanted to come to LSU out of high school.

quote:Yes. I also realize that every member school is staunchly against cheating and paying players and bending rules until their school gets allegations levied against them. They then sue the governing body and say these rules are bullshite. This has been happening since the inception of college athletics.
You do realize, we (being an SEC team) are part of the reason the rule was enacted just 3 years ago? It would be akin to vetoing our own legislation.
Also, that rule was put into place in June of 2021. Two months after the NCAA passed their one time transfer rule and one month before NIL was legalized. Since that point in time, every time the NCAA has attempted to enforce any sort of eligibility rule, they have lost. The NCAA determines player eligibility, not the SEC. LSU would 100%, without a doubt, win any sort of dispute on this issue.
IF Jacoby Matthews wants to come to LSU and LSU wants him, he will 100% be playing in September. If that means LSU has to file an injunction in order to do so, they will do it.
ETA: I don't know why I'm even engaging here. LSU would not be the party filing suit. It would be Jacoby Matthews.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

The A&M spin machine

Haven't even read the thread but the program moved on from this one weeks ago. 'Has entered the portal' is now a pretty loose, all-encompassing phrase when someone leaves - or is forced to leave - a program. He's the first but won't be the last example of a player not meeting the new on- and/or off-field expectations that come with Elko and a new staff taking over. A lot more accountability required than we've seen in the past.

So sick of seeing this guys name come up with LSU. If he wanted to be here, he would be here.
it wasn't that simple. He absolutely 100% wanted to be a Tiger when he signed with A&M. Was set to sign with LSU and signing day morning things changed. Family forced him to sign with Aggie.
Posted on 2/24/24 at 4:48 pm to MrWiseGuy
That is 100% spin on Aggie's part. He was personally recruited and is close with Elko. He wasn't forced out.
Posted on 2/24/24 at 5:19 pm to Ponchy Tiger
He might not have been forced out but there are rumors that he’s not a fan of the new regime that Elko is implementing.
