Correct me if im wrong, but having a business contract with a kid not "allowing" him to jump ship (without contractual penalties) doesnt allow you to ignore NCAA rules.

I think we have to wait about 5 more hours to see if they concede.

Close if not. Seems it was about game time when it broke.

And if the contract is similar to what was posted in that article on the recruiting board, it makes no sense.

They say he can’t enter the portal, but also state if he transfers he owes damages.

Which is it? Can he transfer or not?

You’re correct that a school can’t contract around the NCAA rules and think they’re covered. But It doesn’t really matter. All he has to do is withdraw from UW and enroll wherever he wants to go. I can still see him giving it the full 48 hours, plus, then using it ammo for a counter-suit if they don’t put him in the portal.

Good theory. To add to the 48 hour thing, it would be when he submitted his notice to the Compliance Department.

Could have been Tuesday night when he announced on socials, or first thing Wednesday morning. You then have a few days for the portal to process the Compliance Department’s request, this sometimes takes a few days.

I think Udub is in a tough spot. If they put him in the portal it's like they are conceding. But if they don't then they give his case more ammo.

Washington has already scheduled visits with other quarterbacks and yet he is still technically not allowed to negotiate with new schools so which direction are the damages going at this point?

I would lose my shite if UW signed another high priced QB and Williams announces he’s staying at Washington

ETA: He’s probably good enough to skip this season and still get drafted in the first round. If Washington did sign another QB, they’d probably amend the contract to allow him out of it.

Bring on the chaos!

Didn't someone say Udub may be tinkering with the Arizona QB?

I thought this was the most likely scenario from the jump.

UW is being petty & will enter his name at the 59th minute.

Doug Hendrickson who was Demond's agent dropped him today.

Doug is also the agent for Washington's coach.

This is the reason some said today the coach ask for his name to be placed into the portal.

Washington still wants to press a sued at this time, which is very likely to be dropped.

What rules?

NCAA requires schools to enter players into the portal "2 days" after written request.

Part of why the NCAA has a tight portal-processing timeline is to prevent schools from effectively “holding” a player while they shop replacements.

What’s interesting here is the reporting that Washington’s agreement is based on a conference-wide template that includes language aimed at limiting portal movement and restricting NIL rights tied to another school. If a whole conference standardizes clauses that suppress mobility across competing programs, that starts to look less like a normal contract dispute and more like a coordinated restraint—the kind of thing that can draw antitrust scrutiny.

If Washington’s real remedy is just money (e.g., repayment/buyout/liquidated damages), fine—handle it like coaches: pay to exit, move on. But if the posture is “we can delay portal entry / block movement because of the template,” that’s exactly where this gets messy fast.
