Huge reach here. He got his lofty high school raitng on his potential basically. He was 6'3 190 with a 42" vertical coming out of high school, but at Curtis never actually did much in that offense because they didnt throw it. Unfortunately he just didnt live up to the billing here and never developed into more than a pretty good, but not great WR. His hands were always a bit of a issue and I think he played "afraid" a bit too much - he was not a contested ball catcher much and thats exactly what he should have been with his height and vertical leap. Thats what could have turned him into a high end draft pick but he just rarely ever showed that here. Blame the offense under Miles all you want, plenty of WRs got drafted well before the 7th round during Miles' tenure here though.

One of Dupre's biggest mistakes was declaring after his junior year where he still wasnt able to put up much of a season. He had the big bowl game against Louisville and thought that would get him drafted pretty high, and it didnt.

He's more Marshall than Dupre. Dupre ultimately just didn't really move well enough to be a real threat at receiver in the NFL.

Most of these 4-5 star guys will never be caught from behind in high school.

So I like to look at his pull-away speed. It looks good, not great. Looks like a true 4.5ish guy. Could get faster for sure as he ages

I was better than Malachi out of high school. Shorter, fatter, and miles slower but at least I could catch a bubble screen.

Like Beckham and Landry didn’t blossom under miles?.

He ran a 4.35 at Catholic high’s make shift pro day(great idea by the way) with the coaches squeezing the handheld watch.

Hand times are significantly faster as is, and so much more so when the timer has rooting interest.

The guy is legitimately fast but he isn’t running 4.35 on film.

I don’t think Sampson is on the level of Marshall when it comes to physicality, even at the same age. His WR skills are just as good, maybe better but imo he’ll need to develop a little before really getting on the field, regularly.

It’s all about their will to be really good players. If he’s got what it takes then he’ll be just as good as any other big WR we’ve had but if not or he’s slow to develop that tenacity then he won’t. That goes for any other player, not only Sampson.

He’s got all the natural talent in the world to be as good as he wants to be. Some of these offensive guys just don’t have that physical nature it takes and some do. It’s usually instilled in the defensive guys. That’s why I like to see these WRs blocking on film. You can see that nasty attitude in them then. He may have that but I just haven’t seen him in person or know him or seen him have that nasty attitude on film. Like I said he may have it already? Obviously he’s got talent because everyone wants him and the recruiting sites love him so no doubt he’s very talented and LSU would be lucky to have him.
