Is 2024 Louisiana Football Class Weakest?
Posted on 2/6/23 at 6:46 pm

Louisiana has a reputation for producing among the nation's highest number of quality high school football players in relationship to the state's population. However, 2024 may be the worst this century. According to 247Sports, it normally rates 15-18 Louisiana high school players as four- or five-star prospects each season. Next year's class projects to have just five to seven. Brian Kelly's ability to attract out-of-state talent will be put to the test in his effort to rebuild the program.

2012 was pretty garbage, that's probably its closet competition.

It is FAR too early to make a real judgement about that.
Almost assuredly there are another 10-12 kids who will emerge over the next 8-10 months as 4-star type recruits.
But we're going to recruit heavily out of state as we should, because LSU is going to be a very hot national brand with a big-time profile and a fantastic season to sell.
Not to mention a heavily marketable class of already-committed 2024 recruits who are helping to recruit their classmates. I'm talking about Hurley and Galloway among others.

It's cyclical.
Last year Louisiana had a damn strong class.
17 players 4* are above. Just 10 went OOS.
I'm gonna get downvoted by the Kelly fanboys but I'm not saying he did a bad job, just looking DT numbers

Man, Katrina hurt Louisiana recruiting more than most people realize. Go look at recruiting classes mid 2006 to 2012 and the top ranked guys in state. There wasn’t a lot of talent coming from southern Louisiana and that area has always historically produced.

What class would you like to have, this one:

RB Alfred Blue, Boutte, La. (Hahnville HS)
WR Jarrett Fobbs, Shreveport, La. (Huntington HS)
TE Nic Jacobs, Many, La. (Many HS)
DB Tyrann Mathieu, New Orleans, La. (St. Augustine HS)
OL Elliott Porter, Waggaman, La. (Archbishop Shaw HS)
DB Eric Reid, Geismar, La. (Dutchtown HS)
DB Tharold Simon, Eunice, La. (Eunice HS)
DB Ronnie Vinson, New Orleans, La. (Newman HS)
LB D.J. Welter, Crowley, La. (Notre Dame HS)
WR Armand Williams, Slidell, La. (Slidell HS)
P Brad Wing, Melbourne, Australia (Parkview Baptist HS)

LB Trey Granier (Thibodaux, La./Thibodaux HS)
OL Jerald Hawkins (Baldwin, La./West St. Mary HS)

Too early to make that kind of prediction. Sometimes Louisiana football class starts off looking weak but ends up being a strong class. See how it looks next November or December

Hell yeah. I forgot about him.

The ones we lost were either never coming to LSU or they were already soured bc of Orgeron.
That’s pretty much how the instate shite played out from all reports

I'd say that any class with the almost undisputed best defensive player in LSU history is better than the 2012 class

I forgot we had 3 players from Breaux Bridge in that class.

I'm gonna go ahead and say that O would have done about the same as Kelly with the Louisiana recruits, probably would have lost Perkins, and would have been less interested in transfers and more interested in scholarshipping walkons.

I meant as far as the number of 4 and 5* players in-state
Posted on 2/7/23 at 8:33 am to Tenntig
They havent really fully rated/ranked the 2024 kids yet. There's always very little 4/5 stars very early in cycles.

Mathieu
Casanova
Peterson
Dorsey
Brooks
Marshall
All are guys for whom a strong argument could be made. If I got one pick it would be Patrick Peterson.

Mathieu had the single best season of any LSU defender, and that's hard to argue against. I agree it's hard to say he had the best LSU career since he only played 2 seasons. But you can make the same arguments for and against Burrow on the offensive side.
Posted on 2/7/23 at 11:50 am to Steel_Tiger
Burrow statistically had the best season an undefeated ,national championship qb has ever had so it’s a little different argument. Getting kicked off the team n the no national title hurts his argument. But was the most impactful defensive player I’ve ever seen in college in a single year.
