I really hope the new coach uses this game to his advantage. Even with bad coaching on offense, a ton of second-string players, and a lame duck head coach, we almost beat Alabama, supposedly the #2 team in the country. We are not that far away from contending. Trust in me (the new coach), and we will just showed that we will be a contender for a national championship. Help be the recruit that takes us to the top again!

That Bama isn't where it's cracked up to be any more.

None of it matters until they know who the coach is. Everyone knows LSU has talent and can contend yearly. LSU just needs to hire the right coach

Apparently not everyone knows. I heard several times from close to LSU that we are set back about 2 years at this point. I don’t believe that for a second and many of those people saying things like this are emotionally responding, have no idea what LSU actually has on its roster, they’re complete moronic homers or all the above.

I had a good feeling that LSU would do this exact thing tonight and possibly win. They came up short because of many factors but LSU is NOT 2 years away. We are one hire away. How many injures we had this year? How many defections and early departures did we have last year, including great coaches? That’s tough to deal with for anyone! But when you make it tougher on yourself, you can lose your team and your dream job! That’s what happened.

Trust me, this LSU program remains strong, tough, deep, hungry and ready for some oxygen. We are literally a good breather away from another playoff run!

Just look at Tennessee. They haven’t recruited even in the same ballpark as LSU, lost 42 players when the new staff was hired, and they’re playing really good football. Coaching and development is key in todays game. The right coach can win 10 games his first year. Our defensive line recruiting has been pretty solid the last couple of years. Go get some OL and LB’s in the portal, we compete immediately.

I disagree. Tonight’s game will go a long way towards showing that LSU is close to Bama and not a complete dumpster fire. Even when we’re playing 3rd and 4th string guys.

So you’re saying we could hire a terrible coach and the recruits would still rejoice because we played BAMA close?

Exactly right, these boys need stability and have to be able to trust as well as believe in what the LSU program is about. They need good clear direction on how to get there, then see results from that message. It’s as simple as that.

No one wants to be on the failing team but they also need to know that you can’t and don’t always win every battle but can still win the war. When you have a young team, especially, losing battles is how you learn about the weaknesses you have to work out so that the war can be won.

You simply need a good stable knowledgeable leader to help them recognize the weaknesses, correct them and follow that up with positive results. You can’t be afraid to attack or hesitate when it’s time to pull back. There needs to be a solid attack with multiple layers as well as a plan for initial failure. You have to keep them believing at all times and sometimes with a young team, that’s not easy to do.

That’s why recruiting is extremely important. You must have leadership on every team that the players trust and are willing to follow. You also need to have unselfish players. All this shite about sitting out because you have a bruise, well that’s fine but let it be known that the next player is hungry and your position is always open when you leave it vacated. Program is always first, over every man, including the HC or any staff member.

If you don’t like that, then this program is not for you. If you do like the idea of having warriors for teammates and a coach that will back you up no matter what, then this is the place you want to be.

0 synergy on offense. It truly looked like the first time that offense had ever stepped on the field together. We will find it again.

They do need to hire the right coach. My point is that, as the right coach, you should be able to use this game to show that championship caliber talent is on THIS LSU team. The other coaches will lie and say that a recruit shouldn't come here because we are so bad of a team. It will be years before LSU will contend again. But, the right coaching staff will be able to show this game (and I hope similar efforts the rest of the year) and prove that LSU still has the talent to compete. We just needed a better coaching staff to mentor and DEVELOP all of this talent. So, come to LSU, young men, and help us get right back to the top.

FWIW, I have to admit that I really expected a blow out. I hadn't seen any consistency on offense (and still haven't), and the defense has given up so many yards and points to everyone else this year. I expected the same to continue. But, Jones called a great game for the most part, and our offense managed to put together a couple of scoring drives. Poor coschong decisions didn't help at the end, and Max definitely isn't comfortable in the pocket. I can't fault him for that because our O-line has been horrible all year. BUT....I did see a bunch of kids who played in purple & gold and displayed heart. A will to win. A bunch of non-starters who now had a chance to show what they could do. And, they nearly pulled off a win that nobody thought they would get, including me. For that, I apologize to these kids and really do hope that effort carries on the rest of the year. Show the heart of the FIGHTING TIGER, even though our staff hasn't put you in a great position to succeed recently, and show the next staff who you are and what type of team they will be inheriting! GEAUX TIGERS and FOREVER LSU!

Last night should show a lot of LA recruits Bama isn’t that far above LSU regardless. And if nothing else guys like Quincey and walker should look at that game ask how they could have made a difference. We were on our 2Nd team defense and the QB looked rough.

We need a few difference makers such as QB (wait, I think we have one on the way), Oline (wait, I think we have some one the way but need a couple more), and a number 31 (back up the Brinks truck but find this guy, he's out there).

Then, and for sure, we'll whip some RTR arse...

That game last night does nothing but help. We were the better team playing with many backups. We played our guts out. We'll be back quickly with a solid hire.

I agree… the right coach can get this thing back humming pretty quickly. The transfer portal is the equalizer in todays college football

Correct, the right hire and we're back on track in a hurry. That's what makes this job so great. You have the talent to seriously compete for a championship. Stack a few classes, and keep a few key components from going to the NFL and you're right there.

Totally agree. We needed to earn some respect. No one expected us to push Alabama’s Offense around and be right there with a chance to win it.

Bayoubengal99, you are correct sir. We are one hire away from continued greatness. The fight in the heart of our team was outstanding. We brought the fight and we had the heart! Bama had a few with heart, but they were the best recruits on paper, but paper does not have heart and love for their teammates. Coach come and go, but these players will remain Tigers forever in the hearts of each other and the hearts of the fans. We love you players, who left it all on the field, especially Deculas and the other seniors. Geaux fighting tigers, you have made us all very proud.

The biggest difference is getting a good head coach that assistants want to work for. Coach O's paramount problem is when his assistants all left for better jobs, he was unable to convince top notch coaches to work for him, settling for third and fourth choices.

Not enough people understand or appreciate this aspect. Coaching at the college level..especially position coaching makes a YUUGE difference between players.
