Whos more athletic? The average 100m high school sprinter? or Pedro Martinez?

There is a difference in athleticism and skill.

Eli sat for 2 years at Ole Miss, where Peyton only sat for a little while. The starter got hurt in the first game, but Peyton would have beaten him out anyway.

These guys go to many of the same camps and know how good each other are. If Arch comes here, its not to sit on the bench for 3 years. Eli H left STM because he knew he wasn't going to beat out Howard and was going to sit for 2 more years. You want a QB that isn't afraid of competition. Just because our QB is really good doesn't mean that someone can't come in and beat them out if they're better. No matter how good our QB's look this year, I don't think they're going to scare Nuss off and I like that.

I don't think that was about competition on the depth chart. I thought it was about not wanting to go to what the Mannings considered a crappy organization.

Peyton Manning was a freak athlete. Being able to run around is literally one aspect of athleticism.

By all Manning family accounts, Cooper was the most athletic followed by Eli. Peyton was a distant 3rd. He was a brilliant QB from a cerebral standpoint.

Eli made a very level headed decision to play for the organization he thought was better suited to career success.

Seems he calculated it very well.

A baseball swing is a skill. A golf swing is a skill. Shooting free throws is a skill. Some forms of jump shooting are skills. Shooting a rifle or bow at a target is a skill. These don't require a lot of athletic ability.

Things that require speed, jumping ability, change of direction, body contortion, etc., are athletic abilities.

This is not to degrade either categories, but the categories do exist.

I think Walker Howard > Arch Manning
I told some buddies this Saturday night and got laughed at.

I’ve watched them both play every game this season and Walker looks better to me.

Granted- Arch is a year younger. And that name just carries so much weight.

Idk what will happen but I think both of those kids have the tools to play on sundays

I watched Peyton Manning play basketball with Randy Livingston in high school & it was very apparent they those were two very different kind of athletes, hoss.

Peyton Manning was a highly coordinated athlete, there is no denying that. Physically, he was average at best, if we are being nice. There is no way he could be labeled as a freak athlete, with that in mind.

Agreed. However, young Arch is more like Archie in the way he moves than either Peyton or Eli. He is also a pretty good basketball player.

Granted, I think Arch Manning is still very very very good, and deserves all the praise he is getting for playing the way he has. But I think Howard: 1) is a better athlete. 2) has better ball placement 3) is an exceptional off-plane thrower 4) has more polished mechanics 5) is a quicker decision maker Howard & Nussmeier are actually very similar players.

So Manning is rated higher because? Because of his name only?

If Howard is so good why isn’t he a 5 star?

For basketball required athletic abilities...yes.

But ive seen Olympic sprinters throw a baseball like a little girl.

Strength is an athletic ability. Coordination is. Leg speed. Arm speed. Fast twitch. Slow twitch. All of it.

Eddie Hall is an athlete. So is Gabby Douglas.

Just because people focus on a few specific athletic abilities doesnt mean they are exclusive.

There are a few very basic common principles associated with athleticism. However you want to branch off from that is fine, but when you’re considering someone a freak athlete, you, at the very least, need to excel in those basic components. And Peyton Manning was just average at best in most of those

Wasn't Walker's mom a pretty good athlete? I know Arch's was all-state in volleyball and track. She was the Metro Girls MVP for track.

This is his first year being a starter. Arch has started a year. Walker was the QB MVP at the army all american camp last year. He will be a 5 star guaranteed

Howard literally is taking his first ever varsity starts this season. There was basically little to no tape on him outside of camps and obviously very little happened in terms of camps this past summer as well. Howard's only actual high school tape from this season hasnt even been evaluated yet.

leveled headed maybe but Peyton and Eli didn't want to sit on a bench

I know he's playing with Hilton at Zachary - but what about any info someone has on Eli Holstein 2023 QB? We offered this past summer.

Manning is going to Ole Miss for sure. Just prepare for it he's not going to LSU. Shouldn't be a big drop off between Howard and Manning. They're both great.

I'm firmly in the stance of you need an athletic pocket passer in modern NCAA. Name me a team that has won the NC the past decade who didn't have a super athletic QB? Lawrence is the closest thing to a pocket passer but he's still an outstanding athlete in the pocket. Guys like Brennan don't cut it anymore. Have to be able to move around in the pocket. You can still be a true pocket passer but you can't be a statue.

If Howard goes to LSU Manning is going elsewhere. If Howard does not go to LSU I think we have a good shot at him. He's not sitting behind Nuss, Howard, and now potentially Finley. Which that's another good example of an athletic pocket passer. Finley can move around and it's no surprise it gave the defense fits because they had to respect him more.
