Look I’m all about kids getting paid but there has to be limits and standards. This shite has been around for a year and it’s already well out of hand. How many more years before there is some sort of regulations?

Since we now have NIL, the portal should be done away with and go back to the old transfer rule...you want to transfer, you sit out a year...

Why is there not a form of salary cap, as it is in the NFL? I am good with players being paid, but there has to be some form of salary cap to keep some form of parody throughout the NCAA.

I’d be open to amending it by years. You have to spend 2 seasons at your school or second season sitting at new school. Juniors and seniors get immediate eligibility. That’ll force the players to plant themselves and fully commit to their current environment. By end of sophomore year you have a better idea of your place on a roster or system.

A cap would do no good. Before NIL, players were getting paid, it just wasnt out in the open. All this time the NCAA was helpless to stop it. What makes you think teams wouldnt just go back to paying players under the table in addition to their announced NIL deals? People tend to relate NIL money to the NFL salary caps, which are used to try and ensure parity in the league, they are not the same. NFL players get NIL money too, but the NFL does not try to control that money...mostly because it would be impossible!

The salary cap in the NFL is collectively bargained by the franchises and the players union. If it were just unilaterally imposed by the league it would be an antitrust violation.

The way to legally get a cap is to first determine the players are “employees”. If/when that happens they can then negotiate with the NCAA/Conferences. Otherwise, the schools can’t “cap” NIL

They literally can’t regulate it. The moment they do there will be lawsuits. You can’t limit how much a person can make off of their name image and likeness.

The salary cap is also only strictly for what the players can get paid by the team they play for. It does not cap how much they can make off of endorsement aka name image and likeness.

The schools will never sign off on making the players employees. NIL is the compromise. My issue isn’t with NIL The transfer portal and one free transfer rule is a way bigger deal in my opinion.

They may not be able to control NiL but they should be able to control the players eligibility! So let them get paid but restrict the ability to play. Let the players get paid and charge the university a punitive amount 10x what the player received in NiL money! Use this fund and distribute to the smaller universities. I think we just need to force or demand some form of control!

I’m thinking that some type of salary cap is coming. If not, the gap between the haves & have nots will continue to widen. Maybe -12 teams have enough quality starters & depth to compete for a NC and are OK with the current situation. The other +100 won’t be OK with it and will definitely push for change. Either the NCAA as we know it implodes, or we’ll see some changes coming soon.

Because it’s not a salary. It’s “advertising dollars”. The player is worth whatever the company is willing to pay them to sponsor their product, or in most cases, whatever the boosters are willing to just flat out pay the kid.
