They're both filthy. Stingley is a better athlete though and I think has better ball skills. But its a tough call.

They're both very smart kids and technically polished. I think Stingley is slightly better, but both are early draft picks and NFL starters one day barring injury.

Damn shame they aren't playing across from each other.

And to those bashing on Surtain, I don't think his goal was to leave LSU hanging. I think he had some pressure from dad and also felt more at home at Alabama. He called the coaches two nights before signing day and told them what his plan was and apparently was almost in tears. It wasn't a vindictive thing, it was just unfortunately last minute. I don't hate the kid and think he will do great things on the football field.

Dont know much about where Surtain played HS ball but Dunham isnt exactly setting the world on fire for competition.

You can blame it on the kid. But the fact is the coaching staff saw someone that wouldn't commit during the early signing period and didn't shift focus to someone that would've (Goodrich).

These recruits tell you more with their actions than they do with their words.

This was definitely not his intention and we could've easily had Goodrich on board already and still taken Surtain. That was on Orgeron.

It is a fact that Stingley is rated as .9917 and Surtain was rated as .9973, yes. What the data is based on doesn't change that.

All I am saying is that calling it “factual” data is a misrepresentation of what you are presenting. It’s data based on aggregated opinions. You can’t call it factual simply by virtue of existing

I get your point that one is simply rated higher than the other and I suppose it’s worthy of bringing it up. The figures you posted would suggest that they are both very good players. Just giving you a hard time.

Surtain: Soph, JR, SR seasons combined - 48 TCKLs, 5 INTs

Stingley junior season only: 64 TCKLs, 11 INTs

Factual data.

You're right. It's not factual data so that was the wrong phrase to use.

I’m glad we got the one we did, would have loved to have gotten both.

Hopefully Fulton lives up to his prep rating and we have a solid couple DBs next year

I wish we had both

STINGLEY seems to be a better athlete and cover corner. I believe Surtain had more Fandom and hype because of his background, but no matter.

We will find out in due time.

I'm still looking for game footage that shows Surtain deserved his ranking. He may be all that, but there's no proof, just projection.

The only footage that exists is a bunch of mediocre punt returns, a couple pass deflections, maybe one INT, giving up a TD in the Army game and some unconvincing camp clips.

Whereas, Stingley's ball skills, speed and game-changing playmaking ability shows up so early & often in any highlight reel, you don't even have to finish watching as you realize "Ok, this kid is next level elite."

I agree Freek. I always thought he'd be a great free safety, but wasn't sold that he had the quickness of an elite corner. Doesn't mean he isn't one, but there isn't enough footage out there that proves he's the superstar that the hype suggests.

I could be wrong, but I always got an Ed Paris vibe about Surtain's future (HS lock-down CB hype turned serviceable safety).

Stingley has elite break away speed

Stingley ran a 4.30 40 193lbs

Surtain ran nearly a 4.6 (4.57) 192lbs

By comparison, Devin White ran 40 4.57 260lbs

Surtain has more size (height) , Stingley has better coverage stills and is a true shut down corner. I like Surtain better as a safety.

Both will do great at their schools.

Surtain's pedigree makes me think he has a low bust potential. But Stingley has that too, plus more athleticism.

Thought the same thing about Tolliver too. He wasn't a bust, but he never became that elite CB that we thought he would be.

I kind of feel the same way about Savion, never thought he was elite.

Will be interesting if those guys get starting spots there, but Fulton is also more of a freak athlete than either of them.

Surtain is a more polished prospect. Hes better than what Peterson was out of high school but that doesnt mean his college career will be as good. Peterson developed an insane amount from year 1 to year 2. Stingley is not as good as either out of high school but that doesnt mean he couldn't be better. However I highly doubt either of them will be as good as Peterson, the way he improved and continues to stay on top of his game is incredible. He doesnt rely on his speed like a lot of elite speed cover guys. That's what Surtain learned, stingley relies a little too much on his speed and athleticism. Again all 3 are good and stingley is a great prospect and is a great add for this class.
