Beings both were the #1 CB recruit in the nation and both were heavily recruited by LSU. Surtain was getting heaps of praise and most people were saying he was the closest thing to PP7 we've seen coming out of high school. Their physical measurables seem pretty identical. How do they compare with intangibles though? Who's do you guys believe is more college ready coming out of high school? The main thing I'd like to know though is...how does their FORM compare (backpedal, lateral movement, hip fluidity, foot plant, physicality, etc)? Who do you guys think has the better closing speed? I'd like to get non-biased opinions from people who've actually seen these guys tapes/play instead of what they have "heard". Let's remove the LSU glasses to discuss this lol.

Stingley is more athletic. The testing times show that.

Last year, Stingley only had 18 passes thrown his way. He intercepted 11 of them. Other than talent and skill set, this kid seems drama free and most of all wants to play for the Tigers.

I mean, just compare the character.

Stingley's video was professional, well done, and showed he had a ton of character. He says his commitment is final and will not waiver.

Surtain, meanwhile, led us on for 2 years and dumped us at the last minute, seemingly on purpose, so that we couldn't fill his spot.

And, Stingley's a better player.

I think all of the posts so far have addressed this question well.

stingley is the better player right now much less in a year. More of a sure thing IMO. Both may end up first round picks but I’m happy with who we got

This is insane.

Both will play on sundays. It would’ve been nice to see stingley and surtain on the field for LSU. Both are tremendous players and I think they both have the ability to be all SEC. I think stingley is a little more polished but they are both great

As far as pure lockdown and cover CB’s you can’t go wrong with either. Yes Surtain still leaves a bad taste in our mouths but he is as good of a CB as they get Stingley is as well. It’s a draw at covering.
Where Stingley has the edge is over all athleticism. Looks at his film... I mean WOW! You won’t see Surtain returning kicks for a TD or catching deep balls as a WR. As Jimmy Smith said, Stingley is the best player out of LA since Leanars Fournette and a chance to be better if he wows again during his Sr year.

Stingley has a .9917 composite rating (This is hampered by ESPN going full retard). This has time to rise before signing day.

Surtain had a .9973 composite rating.

I'm not offering my opinion, just presenting factual data.

Stingley is a lot faster. I think Surtain’s 40 time was around a 4.5. Stingley ran a 4.3, witch is flying

gosh, for once I agree with a post you've made.

however, I do not 100% agree that they both will play on sundays. while it's possible, even probable, there are just too many things that can distract an 18 year old and too many unknowns. there are tons of 5 star busts out there or guys that just don't improve enough to keep their elite status.

Is that really factual data though? It’s all based on opinion right?

It is a fact that Stingley is rated as .9917 and Surtain was rated as .9973, yes. What the data is based on doesn't change that.

ETA: This isn't a slight on Stingley. ESPN's absurdly low ranting is what's keeping his composite down right now. Seeing that ESPN recruiting is the least respected of all the services, I'd say it will correct itself once they catch up to the rest.

However, the 247 composite is nearly unanimously considered the best source for rating prospects. If you want a fair comparison you have to consider that rating, once it's final for Stingley of course.
