re: Hiring of Pelini and the effect on Burch and Jackson

Yeah, what is hardly ever mentioned here is of course M Jackson WAS an LSU verbal at one time and then decommitted. Many times that situation occurs and the player recommits (Roy of course did it in this class). Be interesting to find out why he REALLY decommitted in the first place.

We’re 3rd for M Jackson. It’ll be easier for everyone to accept that now before getting their hopes up any further

I'm not enthralled by Pelini as DC due to his flareups that were embarassing sometimes (Nebraska in particular as HC)
He’s not going to be Head Coach.
End of concern.

They'll be rolling around on the practice field before it's all over with! LOL!!

You know that does make me feel better
You remember the GA DE/LBer Lorenzo Carter for 2014 class. It was not helpful for LSU fans to be sure for him to say that LSU was so incredibly close to getting his signature. And he was a lot higher rated than Jackson....Carter was #18 in his class. Rather finish 3rd than 2nd any day.

O would set him straight real quick

As long as he doesn't "throw the bit"...hopefully that is the right horseman's term

You can never really tell from a written interview, but the 247 interview with Burch from before he visited gave me the impression that Burch almost wanted to be convinced to switch to LSU.
Like you said though, he could go back home and get cold feet or get influenced to stay put. I imagine if he thinks about it clearly he'll realize LSU is the best decision for his future.

credit where credit is due - you've been talking in absolutes about pelini being the DC for the past few weeks
he may know something after all
he may know something after all

There was about a 2 day window when things hit a snag and we almost moved on. Obviously they were able to reach a compromise and here we are. Outside of that, Pelini was always the #1 target and others were fall back plans.

can you touch on who else was a possibility outside of kris richard?

I think it helps honestly because under Bo when we had him our d lines always stood out.

Do you seriously think these guys researched Bo's LSU lines?

Blake Baker, James Leonard, and Todd Grantham were the other 3 highly considered options. I'm not 100% positive, but have heard Baker was the next man up. Kris Richard wasn't too keen on leaving the NFL and really wanted no part of recruiting.

When you're willing to spend $2 million you generally get your #1 choice.

It would take a video guy 2 hours to make a cut up of defensive line play under Pelini to show these guys. You think the staff doesn't talk X's and O's with prospects when there on campus for a visit? You don't think they show the guys film during this? They're just winging it?
When they were recruiting Burrow, they supposedly spent an entire day going over film with him.

SO YOUR SAYING THAT BURCH IS 100% COMING OR I CALL U OUT PERSONALLY IN A FIT OF RAGE IF HE DOESNT?

That's why I still have this as a maybe. O thought he had him last time, including less than 24 hrs before his announcement.
Then he announced to huge applause at his school that he was choosing SC.
Now he has to return and flip, not just on Muschamp, but all of those he told he was signing with SC. Kids flip all the time, but not many after sitting in front of their peers and the cameras.
That is a ton of pressure.
As much as I want him here, and that the coaches feel good, it is a maybe in my book. I hope that maybe turns into a signed LOI on O's desk.

When we pick a target that is a head coach, do we usually have any inside info or feelers that the person is open to an offer? I like Bo, and look forward to his return, I simply wonder what made us think of him right out of the box.
Posted on 1/27/20 at 2:55 pm to lakelanier
He and O are friends through mutual friends. This wasn't an out of left field type offer.
