Dartmouth case - just classified college athletes as employees for Labor Relations and Union Status.
College athletes are no longer amateurs but professional players. College sports need to be dismantled and all these high school future NFL/NBA players need to be sent the baseball farm team and G League route.

They are. Just call it something else. Abortion is healthcare too.

If Amazon offered Joe Burrow $100 million at free agency to come to Seattle we would think it’s crazy.
Crazy, not illegal.
Much like Cleveland outbid ATL & NOLA for FA Deshaun Watson with their crazy guaranteed $250M offer. That's not an illegal bribe.
Bussey is basically a FA & can legally accept endorsement deals (per SCOTUS) that capitalize his name, image & likeness.

Bribery is a crime in any political, business or formal setting.
Is it though?

Wouldn’t private firms then try to recruit players to NFL teams with incentives be classified as bribery? If Amazon offered Joe Burrow $100 million at free agency to come to Seattle we would think it’s crazy.
This isn't illegal, but it is salary cap circumvention, which is against the CBA.

If this is bribery, so is getting paid by an employer.

Still not the same thing. These guys aren’t employees. That’s what I’m saying. It’s crazy they aren’t employees and held to same standard but can be induced by people other than who they are “working” for.

You can get paid by anyone who wants to pay you. The reason this is allowed is because the people paying these payers are doing so because it’s an investment. The same people paying these players profit when LSU is successful. It’s essentially like buying commercial time on a popular radio or tv show. A business has every right to do that and an individual has every right to be paid for that reason.
Yeah, it’s kind of put under a sham name in this case but that’s essentially what this is. These players are a “commercial” to the investors paying them.

Oh yes you are…..when you sign the dotted line on the “fax” and receive money you become an employee. Maybe not on paper, but in every sense of the word you are an employee.
The money does not come from the university. If they are in fact employees then they are employees of the people and companies who retain them for NIL purposes.

Salaries are not briberies. That’s what it comes down to. Get over it

Not a salary when you don’t work for collective.

almost all legal definitions of bribery involve public officials or employees.
Paying private people to do what you want is just commerce.

It's only bribery if you call it bribery.

Bribery is the illegal inducement of a public official. High school athletes are absolutely not public officials.

Bribery is more like paying large sums of money for current and former presidents to speak for an hour, even when laundered through campaigns and political actions committees, but we apparently can't undo Citizens United.
