Has Shelton Sampson become the most important player in this class?

I understand there are obviously bigger needs at Corner, Oline and LBer than WR but could we possibly get swept and not sign one top 5 player in state? Even worse if Ausberry leaves you'll have 6 instate top 100 players that don't play for you.

Seems like Shelton is a must land.

That’s the thing. It’s sounding like a broken record now. All of the LA guys in the top ten are must lands. We were told guys like Williams and Curtis were going to be focused on by BK’s staff. That we were “making up ground” in their recruitment. Same thing with Jordan Matthews right now.

I still think Shelton absolutely comes to LSU but, what if A&M decides they want him? What if UGA’s boosters decided to drop 7-figures on the kid? Are we really saving up our NIL money for him? I have dwindling confidence about LSU signing top-100 guys. They just don’t have the money to throw around like these other programs to get a top-5 class

No reason to panic yet. This is year one of Kelly. This tends to happen with coaching changes.

Both.... Sampson and Heard are the top guys to recruit for the class, imo.

You think it is only day 3 for him? He doesn't stop melting and saying the same thing. He cries about other people not spending their money on LSU football but won't tell us how much he is putting in.

You really need to take a break

We’re talking about recruiting high school kids. It’ll be ok.

I remember when Les got fired after that class fell apart, all of the melts about getting dominated by A&M and the end of an era blah blah blah

I truly hope that the people melting about the future are different than they were in 2016

Did these kids sign their NLI and I wasn't aware? Did the rules change and prevent LSU from recruiting them if they're committed somewhere else? Take your crybaby bullshite somewhere else. The battle for these kids is far from over.

You guys better quickly realize in the current state of college football with NIL, kids give two shits about playing for their home team. That ship has sailed. Oh you might get one or two that playing for their home team matters, but that’s about it.

I repeat what many have said, NIL has ruined college athletics. It is what it is. Either get on board or get off until the rules are changed. This is a major cluster frick with this pandoras box that was opened. Good luck getting this under control.

I didn't think this at first but when you give kids 6 figures to play, mom and dad being able to watch them play doesn't really factor in. They can fly their parents, family, and friends to every game they play. Home state pride only goes so far.

And you can figure in the fact that probably over 70%(and I could be way off here) come from low income family situations.

Why worry about recruiting. You have zero control unless you want to pony up money just realize it is what it is

What the frick are you talking about?

After Les got fired O landed K'lavon Chaisson and Jacob Phillips. Everyone was a little butthurt by Marvin Wilson and Dylan Moses but you're making up stories.

Critique Orgeron all you want but anyone who questions his recruiting ability either isn't paying attention or is being dishonest purposefully.

I'm not panicking. Just a question. Typically with coaching changes there's either a surge in recruiting like USC or Notre Dame or there's a dip when the new coaches try to a handle on the local class like LSU and Florida. I don't think either is absolutely indicative of potential future success but the one thing I will say with College athletics - fans want to see success or they want to see the signs of future success.

I'm not panicking about the recruiting class but I will say it's going to get awfully hostile if we don't have a great season and combine that with a lackluster class.

Again, we haven't began fall ball yet, it's not out of the possibility that we finish with a top 10 class. But, it is looking increasingly more likely like we won't have the chance at a top 5 class. That's new territory for many of our fans.

Sampson is elite, but I may be more disappointed if we lost Heard. Top OL talent is much harder to find.

Won’t be okay 2-3 years from now with this level of recruiting. We’ve seen what happens when the majority of Louisiana talent is not retained at LSU. It’s the 90s. You’ll be more competitive with BK but, don’t expect to win the SEC if this pattern continues. It sucks but, it is what it is.

At least baseball is killing it
