Good to no longer be recruiting against Saban in Louisiana

Deboer will be good. Potentially very good. But, he doesn’t have Louisiana connections so I’m glad to not have to deal with all that anymore the way we used to where Saban would come into the state and be treated like a god by local high school coaches and boosters. That was infuriating.

I realize Deboer is no Saban. That is good. But we can't underestimate the backing and resources at Bama that lead to good recruiting. Bama still has that.

Of course. They will still be a challenge. Not saying they won’t. But, you know what I mean. Connections matter. Especially in Louisiana. It’s good for those not to be just built in like they were with Saban.

I don't disagree with that but Saban had a ton of personal connections from his time in LA.

Alabama has signed only one top 10 LA player in the last two cycles...Eli Holstein...who LSU didn't push hard for.

Saban pillaging Louisiana was a pre-NIL thing. Since NIL became prevalent A&M has been MUCH more of a threat to LA recruiting than Alabama.

State should be locked down for good in the foreseeable future. Saban and Jimbo both had a lot connections with coaches in Louisiana during their time at LSU.

This is so overstated. Elite recruiters are recruiting well right now, shitty recruiters are not, no matter the school.

After the last few weeks, does anyone actually think that LSU is short on cash? And we couldn’t pay a defensive back $1,000,000 to play for Steeples or Cooks. After seeing a few classes start to unfold since NIL became a thing, money doesn’t seem to be much more or less of a factor in high schoolers’ decision than it was when they were getting paid under the table. Obviously it changed the game with upperclassmen and transfers, but not so much high school kids.

Bama, and the rest of the country, is about to learn how phenomenal of a recruiter Saban was and how “resource heavy” their program really is.

They got a really good coach but yea it’ll be nice with them not having a guy who is revered as a God by many of Louisiana’s high school coaches

I don’t think he is as good a hire as some of you apparently do. He has very little HC experience at D1 level much less the SEC. He will be competing with Sark, Freeze, Smart, and Kelly for recruits and following a guy who had the top or 2nd class every year while DeBoer was coaching Sioux Falls. They could have done worse, but this hire does not worry me at all. It’s more likely he flops and gets run out of town. If they can avoid losing a bunch of talent before fall, then he might have a chance. That’s a big if these days.

I could see Bama winning 10 regular season games next year, Bama fans get antsy, followed with 11 wins, Bama fans feel a little better, then followed by 9, 8 and 8 then fired.

Bama has gotten one top 10 prospect out of Louisiana these last two cycles. The Louisiana recruiting stopped when Golding left.

I don’t think this can be stated enough, there’s no way in hell Deboer will have the same effect in our state…. And Brian Kelly has been working his arse off to put the fence up and doing a hell of a job with that. Loving this!

Love him or hate him I think Nick Saban is/was the greatest recruiter in college history. I remember when news broke out the coach from MSU was coming here I read every thing I could find from everyone I could find. And it was all the same. "Your gonna love this guy...he can recruit". I'll say

The little bit of a down year some say the SEC had this year will be gone very soon. The talent is going to be a little more spread out.

So glad Saban came to LSU.
So glad he is gone from UA.

Too much is made of Saban's success in Louisiana. He really only hurt LSU in season when there was a coaching change.

Bama has been buying players since the bear invented cheating. They'll adjust.

Joker just waltzed through n Louisiana at will. He didn’t get everyone, of course, but he made a dent occasionally.

if you are talking about 2022 and 2023 then ok, but looking collectively at his time at Bama not enough is made of Saban's success in Louisiana. He took about 40 top ten players from Louisiana, a clip of more than two a year on average.

He targeted LSU as his number one threat and systematically tried to keep us down. His time here made that easier, and is why you can argue that LSU was hurt the most by his return to the college game although Tennessee has an argument.
