While this is a logical strategy isn’t everyone else doing this?

So won’t it all come down to the highest bidder yet again?

Of we are going to make a move we better do it quick because the longer it drags out we may end up with nothing like last year.

Yes, but last year LSU decided not to get involved in the early portal period and to wait for later

That was a mistake, and they have readily admitted that

You do know the portal hasn't opened yet, right? It opens on Monday. What you are seeing are guys announcing the will be entering the portal on Monday.

I'm sure LSU (through back channels) is already in contact with several players that have announced they will be entering on Monday, who whom they suspect may consider entering.

May seem like nothing and they weren’t world beaters by any means but CJ Daniels, Jardin Gilbert, Zavion Thomas and Gio Paez filled spots we needed.

Not to mention Aaron Anderson and Kyren Lacy before that.

Not necessarily if they are either happy with what they have or don’t have any more available funds.

I think if what you’re looking for comes available during this window, you jump on him. If a can’t miss from a position of need comes available after the playoffs from the playoff teams become available, sure.
Otherwise, you’re probably going to get only grad students, kids who don’t see a path to playing time or maybe some who are having other issues. That’s not to say that there aren’t good ones in the later, it’s just more of a risk

Paez played well down the stretch considering how much he was out on the field, I think we should try to get a premiere player or two in the portal and stick to additions like a Paez who can fill a role.

only difference is portal transfers are looking for more immediate opportunities as opposed to freshmen who know they may be a backup as a freshman. So there may be a bit less competition b/c only teams that have a spot a guy can start will be an option, for guys who cost a lot.

Something I would think that a 10mil/yr HC would know better than to do.

People here have very strong opinions about things they know nothing about

Was told yesterday from someone involved in NIL that LSU plans on spending heavy this cycle and money isn’t going to be an issue. We shall see.

Only at the DT position did LSU wait on the second portal period. Swann, CJ Daniels, etc. (with the exception of the two DTs (Paez and Suggs)) were signed in the early period.
