They still have the Saban aura and connections on the recruiting trail.

I'm not sure how many people know this here but Saban is still on Alabama staff in an advisory role.

I mean he basically wrote LSU off and said Oregon then Miami
So in the end only immediate upfront money mattered.

This truly shows that the usual diva positions will be just as diva-ish when it comes to NIL.

Do people really believe deboer can't coach?

Judging from some of the posts on this board, there are apparently people who think that way, and that Alabama will be just another SEC program. I'm not of that persuasion, though I can hope.

Yep, Saban is making $500,000 this year in his role at Bama. Nice for a part time job.

What’s he supposed to do? Pay the kids out of pocket?

Brad Davis is going up against the same competition as Raymond but he’s delivering.

Davis is a better coach. Raymond is so aloof. O linemen are a different breed though. They usually come from good families with their priorities straight.

I wasn't happy with bringing Raymond back. I thought they should bring in a hungry new coach. Guess we will see.

For some reason I feel the same way. My gut has been wrong plenty too though.

One would think CR’s limited contract terms would translate into a “hungry coach”…we definitely will see sooner than later.

Years ago I would have said Dorian Brew committing to Oregon would send Pickett to us but these days…

The Oregon hype is getting annoying.

I understand perfectly that his last two years here weren’t stellar- but a lot of it had to do with the Man(O) he was answering to. I think it’s put up or shut up time but CR is a follower not a leader and I’ll give him a pass based on his leader at the time. CBKs leash won’t be long, produce & perform or hit the door. He was brought in to recruit, Steeples a good dude but was over his head. He(CR) will get a mulligan on recruiting this year but he better show his coaching chops now & recruiting for 25-26. CBK hired and apparently liked House but he showed him the door quick. CR will be held to same.

All momentum and recent activity points to Oregon. Would love to be proven wrong.

Mulligan my arse. Why should he get a mulligan? He’s been in the southeastern region of the country the entire time. He went to Florida for 2 years, but all of the top schools recruit basically the same kids(especially in the SEC)

CBK would be really f’ing himself by keeping CR if he can’t even convince a kid from his hometown to get in the boat.

Totally agree. My guess is Raymond has this year to make it happen

Lsu basically got him for free for a yr.

As far as Antoine, I'm thinking Kelly won't love Antoine being all about nil. Raymond just needs to replace him if that's the case.

I swear, the new thing on this board is to look back on past LSU studs and rewrite them as unknown, lowly rated recruits whom we plucked from obscurity after out-scouting everyone. Is it just me? Or is this happening more and more?

The most common one is Malik Nabers (ranked top-150 overall when he committed), but I've also recently seen someone cite tre white an example of a low-rated louisiana DB turning into a star (he was actually a 5* ranked in the top-10 recruit nationally). Greedy wasn't a hidden gem either - he was ranked as the #113 recruit in the country before he ever started his junior year of HS.

If you really follow/followed recruiting back then, then you know when Tre committed to lsu he had 1 other offer was like a 3 star

He became a 5 star by the final rankings for the class
