I would just say to be patient. We are making room right now.

Evals happened 3 weeks ago I believe. Coach Evals were last week.
I am concerned by the lack of replacements we have coming in, but based off the pattern so far, I trust BK. Hoping to see some sort of positive announcement this week with players returning and maybe some surprise commits.

Not an enviable position to be in right now. Razor thin at defensive tackle, apparently way over the limit on scholarships, but still looking for interior defensive linemen.
LSU absolutely has to have a permanent defensive line coach and some guys who can recruit that side of the ball. The offensive coaches are pulling their weight on the recruiting trail, but the defensive staff isn't going to suddenly get better, on or off the field.
If I close my eyes and think real hard, I can vaguely remember a time when we didn't EXPECT the defense to give up points every single time they took the field. It's a bit fuzzy, but I remember.

He has a lower body injury? Meniscus Repair?
Maason Smith had surgery on a full blown left ACL tear suffered when he celebrated with a jump into the air of an LSU play during the first series of the FSU game in 2022. Came back this season but obviously not the same player even after a full year removed from the surgery. I never saw the exact upper body injury described that Kelly mentioned regarding Mingo.

He only really played once Wingo got hurt. Before Wingo got hurt he played 8 snaps against Grambling all season long. Once Wingo went down he got 37 snaps the rest of the season spread across 5 games, so not really playing much still, but was effectively the 4th guy after Smith, Jefferson & Guillory.
He would be entering his 3rd season here next year and if Wingo/Smith/Guillory are all back he's at best the #4 guy. So thats probably good news for us there on those guys and him just wanting to play more than a few snaps a game basically, also has to compete with Washington coming in for those.
I’m not really concerned about Wingo and Smith not coming back. I’m more concerned about possible injury to one or both of them. Missing even a few games could be very concerning

but the goodies are running out.
Are they? Are they even in yet? Maybe some are waiting for after their bowls to declare. Portal window closes on Jan. 2nd. I don't think it's a coincidence that it's a day after all the NY6 bowls and the semi-finals. Maybe Kelly knows of some guys that are enter after the 1st. Know they want to leave, but didn't want to miss out on playing in a NY6 game. Maybe BK knows he's gonna process some guys that are playing in our bowl--maybe they know it too--but wants to give them 1 last opportunity to show what they've got to potential suitors.
Or maybe other coaches are focused on ESD tomorrow and haven't done their player evals yet. Knowing how Kelly wants to build the program through the high school classes, I would imagine of all the things he's having to do right now, tomorrow is probably at the top of his priority list. Making sure all the commits are locked down and ready to sign and maybe trying to flip a couple guys. Then tomorrow his #1 priority becomes portal evals. And maybe he learned from Harris and Chestnut and wants to actually sit down with them and get a better feel for who they are as human beings. With spots so limited, he can't afford to miss, so maybe his offers are gonna be based more than simply tape and need.
Who knows? This December calendar is insane and hard to navigate. And we may strike out. Kelly's plan may fail. But there's no way you can have been paying attention to him these past 2 years and think he doesn't have one. Like I said, his plan may not work. But he ain't out there just winging it and leaving it up to "hope and prayer."

Kelly doesn't strike me as a guy who would announce an incoming transfer before the exiting player got a chance to announce they were leaving.

Im ok with turnover on a bad unit but we need able bodies to fill the depth chart at least

DT recruiting has been light for a few years. The numbers have been low. We need a difference maker but not seeing one at the high school level for us. I hope they have another Wingo type in the plans. Shone is a good pickup, but surely the coaches have someone else in the works.
I think both Smith and Wingo are coming back, but we will not know if they get back to their former selves until they show it on the field. We certainly saw the difference in Maason this year. Hopefully, he just needed more time.
