We can win with 4 stars

Why not, we’ve done it before. But recruiting is far from over. You wait for the finish line.

Guess I've watched all 3 modern national title teams, the disappointments of the Jordan Jefferson era, the greatness of Burrow and '19 in football, all 7 baseball national titles, and disappointments, Chris Jackson, Shaq, Big Baby along with the many disappointments of the basketball program, the countless titles, loss of luster and rebirth of the track program , the excellent Pokey teams and the glorious national title this year in women's basketball for no reason at all. Or just to bitch how it isn't enough.(ever read the rant?, about 70% of our fanbase is in this category)

Question my opinions about a subpar, for LSU, recruiting class all you want but NEVER, EVER, question my fandom of LSU. LOL I've likely been a fan of LSU before you were imagined
You're bitching about recruiting in the first week of July.
But this is only the second stupidest take I've seen from you today.
No, the worst is you saying that Ohio State's Chris Carter is a better receiver than LSU has ever had.

In 2019 the 5* Players:
Sting
Kardell Thomas
Trey Plamer
Marcel Brooks
2020:
Arik Gilbert
Elias Ricks
K. Boutte
2021:
Maason Smith
Sage Ryan
2022:
Perkins
Wiggins
Walker Howard
Of those lists of 5 star players, how many would you re-rank 5, 4, 3, star or lower? How many stay a 5?
We can blame some of this on the Ed Orgeron affect.

We're slipping a bit. Wait and see if the strategy changes before panicking though.

Was Mason Taylor a 5 star? Emory?

Believe it or not, many recruits and their friends and families read this board. Is that how you would like to be perceived ?
This is consistently the dumbest shite I read on this board. No they don’t, and if they do and are fragile about it then we don’t want them. Smart kids and their families/coaches know to stay the hell away from this place.
And I also believe you should be able to comment on the current situation as you see it, even if it is less than amazing. I don’t understand how some of you tell yourselves everything is going perfect all the time.
We all want us to be good. Some people’s concerns are greater than others and that doesn’t make them any less than you elite shite-don’t-stink super fans.
Concern =\= panic.

We’re a top 8 top 10 recruiting program on the somewhat down years of LA. For the years where LA has 2-3 5 stars, we can be top 3 or so. This usually happens every 2-3 years.
We can compete for natties, like this and some of the guys other schools got can transfer over to us anyway when they see the stability and development of the BK system.

Quit panicking over recruiting in July. Still have a whole football season to go before these recruits decisions even begin to really matter.

What amazes me is that LSU is willing to spend the big money on these big time Womens basketball and baseball transfers but wants to pinch pennies on players in by far the biggest sport of all 3. I don’t get it.
Different level of NIL

And, I do believe we have the upper hand in development, but we need 3-5 top top studs every year.
Nowhere in my post did I mention 5*s. I also believe we can win with 4*s, or more accurately a mix of 3s & 4s, and maybe sprinkle in some 5s.
My concern is that we don't seem to be "in the game" on a host of top guys. By "in the game" I mean that we have a decent chance at landing the player. In past years we seemed to have been seriously considered by a lot more recruits than this year for some reason. The analytics show that, so it's not just my opinion. And we all have one as they say. And please stop saying anyone with concerns isn't a Tiger fan. I've been one for 4 decades now (grew up in Ohio as a Buckeye), and bleed P & G through and through (ask anyone who knows me, especially my wife lol).
So, that being said, I hope I am proven wrong in December. Until that time, Geaux Tigers!

My Asian was criminally underrated as a 3 star and Emory was a 4

Not really, he didn’t rank some of these guys that failed to live up to the 5* billing!
That’s the thing with players you sign, they all get the same start, the same everything when you get to LSU, it’s what you do with it that makes the player.

Some kids are complacent, and some come in with something to prove.
I know when I played high school basketball I started as a freshman, was all city, conference player of the year, etc blah blah blah. But when I got to college (and it was a small school), everyone on the team was really really good.
No matter your ranking, you better arrive with something to prove or you will fail...

I disagree I think y’all are missing the big picture. We seem to be putting more eggs in the transfer portal basket then going all out for high school recruiting. We aren’t the only school trending this way. There have been signs nation wide that this strategy might be the way to go in todays world or is at least a viable option. At the very least you have to combine the transfer classes with the prep class when looking at roster talent. I’ll take the 6th-10th rated prep class with the 1st or 2nd ranked portal class over a top 3 prep class but little from the portal. Loading up on top 5 classes every year won’t be what it was 5 years ago. Kids aren’t staying and sitting in the world of free transfers and NIL. I believe y’all’s thinking is outdated and I believe Kelly’s first year showed that and his 2nd will cement it
This is such a good point. It's a really smart strategy because with the portal you can bring in a known quantity. They might not have the massive upside of a new shiny 5 star recruit coming out of high school but you know exactly what you're going to get. And they come cheaper.
Finishing with one of the top classes is great and all but the days of stacking up 5 star recruits up and down the depth chart have come to an end. These guys aren't going to sit for a year or two behind other 5 star recruits waiting for their opportunity.

Those kids are the best players in their high schools, at LSU, you are just another player.
You are so true about arriving with something to prove or a chip on your shoulder, too many ways to put it.
I was talking with a former LSU Player a few months back. He signed with the Tigers, he was 6’5” around 240lbs. When he left LSU he was 322lbs. Was drafted in the 1st round, the 14th player taken in the NFL Draft. He was the first DE taken in that draft.
He played 11 years in the NFL with over 450 tackles and 29 sacks.
That guy I was talking with was Michael Brockers.

I sat beside Brockers during the Spring game that year.

I was with him and Russell Shepard at a LSU luncheon in Houston. Both guys have been doing well in the business profession.
I saw Shep play in a Spring Game, before his Sr year. I was asked to scout with a couple College coaches at Shepards high school, I observed three players, gave an evaluation. I gave my opinion, that college signed all three players.
