he's not 6-1. he may end up there though
we'll see how his speed develops
he's likely a baseball player anyway
*Quinn, not D

The people that know him say that he is 50/50 between football and baseball. Yes, before this year he seemed to be more of a baseball prospect. I have seen him in person before and he is every bit of 6 ft tall. It has also been my experience that with skilled players (RB/WR/DB), they get faster throughout their high school years. I think he will be faster at 18 than at 14.
I will see if the folks over there can get some film. SFP, I am anxious to see what you think after you see him running away from legit 4.4 DB's. Seeing will be beleiving!
I do agree (I think) with what you are implying, in that he won't be a Terrance Tolliver/Ruben Randle type WR recruit. I easily see him more in the Brandon Stokely/Jordan Shipley range.
I disagree with throwing out his stats. I know when I played I could have never done what he did on the 5A level as a 14 year old. Yes, Barbe threw the ball alot, but you have to do something right to break receiving records, especially against Eugene, Hollier, Turner, McDuffy, etc.

Saw him in the Barbe-Acadiana game. He will be very very good, no doubt.

+2.
Say what you want about Barbe, but you watch Smith and Quinn on film and you can't help but be impressed with their hands and pass catching ability.
I myself am excited about a kid like Landry. I don't care how tall he is as long as he catches balls and makes plays, period! I think LSU got too caught up into the 6'4" receiver thing, when all I care about is catch the darn ball! I am still waiting for my next Josh Reed, Landry may have answered my wish!

Gotta say 225 & 6'5" for a current sophmore, looks like he is gonna be a big one in LA in 2013.
Sounds like he might end up being bigger than Leonard Pope was at UGA

are you his dad or one of the coaches at BHS?

when i saw him this year, he didn't look as good as drew blanchard, curtis moreaux, or chad carnahan
drew got offered to MSU, curtis Grambling, and i don't know who offered chad
i gave him the benefit of the doubt for a D1A schollie (unlike drew, curtis, etc)

I still can't believe I've never fricking met you.
My wife grew up with Shane.

Have you attended any Barbe games in the last few years? It is a retorical interrogative. If so you should immediately book an appointment at the Hart Eye Clinic. My take is that Blanchard could block but not catch and for sure had grade problems at MSU. Morrow stayed at Grambling a only few weeks and had illusions of arena football. Carnahan was QB as a senior and was not recruited. Edmonson and Celestie are now at McNeese are good athletes. Quinn is light years ahead of all of those aforementioned receivers. Slow? I saw him run a 22.72 200 meter race (electric timed)at Iowa as an eight grader after strolling away from a high jump win. Justin Vincent, Bahnsen Miller, and Ivan Stevenson are the top four in the Barbe records and were over 23 seconds for the 200 meter as 8th graders. Those guys still hold he Louisiana Class 5A State Meet 4 x 1 relay record at 40.78 seconds set in 2002. Also over 23 seconds as an eigth grader was Baylor All-American and Olympic hopeful Trey Harts the Barbe 100M and 200M record holder. Check with Johnnie Giordano at Hamilton Christian for specifics. He will tell you that the boy Quinn ain't slow. Also I don't think that any of the Barbe coaches have gone out of their way to place any of their players in programs except the baseball coach.

drew's problem was motivation IMO he is a personal friend of mine, and has been for years now....he's got the smarts to do anything he wants to, but lacks the drive

if ernest is at MSU now, they have got one hell of a receiver on their hands! i had not heard he left TTech....he had injury issues there, so that's why we have not seen him on the field. he will be very, very good for MSU as long as they can get him the ball

i think you're right.....shaver is only worried about "people contributing to the program." i'm quoting his words that were directed to the parent of a former DT from a few years ago (the undefeated year until WM in playoffs).
the general consensus on cecchini in lake charles is that he's a prick....i have not had any interaction with him in several years, but when i did..he was not overly rude or much of an a-hole. i think the dude is passionate about baseball and a few butthurt parents didn't care for him because their kids weren't playing as much as they thought they should have.
BTW....prom.....still holding on to that rivalry?

Definitely not true. I know

Ernest is enrolled. There is a story in this AM's Lake Charles American Press discussing transfers to the McNeese program. Coach Viator seems enthusiastic.

I failed to mention that John McDonald a Lake Charles CPA has been doing the BHS fooball stats for years. He publishes an updated Media Guide after each season. His office is on Lake Street and would likely give you one for the asking. Last season he was on the radio broadcasts with Mr. Johnson. I was told that he recently married Desean's aunt.

No SFP, I am not a coach. But I have had HS and college coaches tell me about the 2 step/5 yard rule of thumb. If a kid covers 5 yards in 2 steps when he is at full speed, he is almost always 4.5 or better. I won't slam you on this one, because when I watch Quinn run he doesn't look like Trindon Holliday. He is VERY deceptive when he runs, he is a long strider and glides. Reminds me of the way Eric Dickerson used to run. The footage I saw was two 80 yard TD plays agaisnt Evangel in which he left behind two very fast DB's. It looked like he gets on top of these DB's in a sneaky kind of way then runs by them.
If I had a horse in the race it would be Foster (Barbe QB), but all of you guys told me I was reaching. He will end up making some college coach happy at QB. Quinn and Smith both are going to miss Foster and I expect their stats to drop some without Foster throwing to them.
I don't really know the guys you mentioned, but I would bet that they weren't starting on a 5A roster as a freshman either. Quinn needs to go to some summer camps and let the coaches decide what he can do.
I DO agree that out of all of them, Smith will be the most highly recruited, due to that big frame of his. I think he can add more quality weight and be a nationally recruited TE. Would love to see that big dude in purple and gold!

i don't know if curtis had M/M his way to barbe at that point
BHS was a lot more loaded in the late 90s than it is now. the overall talent at BHS has dropped off in the pact decade
this seems to be the case across the board in LAHSFB though

drew could catch, and was really agile. he wasn't a burner (4.55-4.60, per my MSU coaching friends)

curtis just didn't work hard. curtis and i became good friends at the end of high school, but i'll be honest about him
and we'll see how quinn's physical tools develop
