Change early signing period

3 days is too many in the NIL era. One day should be enough; just like regular signing day.
Heck, I’ve never understood why it was that many from the start.
Does anyone know what the rationale was behind this?

The best case scenario would be to change early signing day till the Summer before the guys senior season. Lock down everybody who is locked in. If a coaching change happens, they can look elsewhere.
Summer signing period.
Then your regular January signing period.

Regular is like a week isn’t it?

Nah that'll never work
For every decommitment/flip, the NCAA should confiscate a family member of the student-athlete (starting with parents and working up/down the family tree).

I'm trying to think of any examples where this has been an issue. Assuming you're you concerned about bidding wars?

1. Kids could always still sign AFTER NSD. that was the first day they could sign and almost all of them did.
2. This was supposed to be an early period where kids could sign before the bowls and stuff so they wanted an end date to that period.

I still think they need to get rid of it. Sign when you get ready, what ever day that is. Will take the bidding wars down a notch

Counterpoint, let them sign whenever they want, during their senior season.

Where are these family members going to be detained?

Yeah. Understand #2.Didn’t mind that. I just think that as it used to be skewed towards the universities’ benefit, now it’s switched to where it the rules (not just multiple signing days) benefit the players.
Maybe I’m just overthinking things (or under thinking)

I always assumed that this was supposed to provide some sort of ability for the coaches to compartmentalize. If you are having to go all out at random times during the season recruiting becomes even more of a full time job than it already is. Granted its currently conference championship week so

I feel like kids should be able to sign whenever they want. When the team makes a commit able offer. The family sits down and comes up with a "contract". Sign it when ready. When you sign you're done.
Edit: Head coach firing or leaving; nullifies contracts. If requested by player/parents.

The normal signing period runs for two months, not one day. It’s February 5 - April 1 in 2025.
Just like “national signing day” is the first day of the normal signing period, “early signing day” is today.

Get rid of it completely. Sign when you’re ready to commit.

I think allowing seniors to sign at any time would reduce recruiting time for coaches since they could mark someone off their list as soon as they sign. As it is now, someone "commits" but they have to continue being recruited because other teams continue to do so.

Don’t forget the uncles and the reverends.

Yes, kids don’t HAVE to sign today, they just can. Asking - not telling: I think part to the protocols is that if a kid wavers too much the school will “take” a replacement and pull the offer because of class size limits. I dimly recall Keiland Williams took 2-3 days to sign and I wondered what check had to clear - ha ha. Logically, wouldn’t many kids WANT to wait and see who signed where before making final choice and signing on the dotted line? Or do too recruits all text each other and sort it out behind the scenes?
