I looked through our last decade of recruiting classes and the hit rate on 3 stars is pretty spotty.
LSU has more 3 star recruits in the NFL, than any other program in America.

You can certainly find talent in the 3 stars though it may be more of a toss up than the 4 and 5 star tier. Some of the noteworthy 3 star names we signed...
Lloyd Cushenberry
Damien Lewis
Saahdiq Charles
Patrick Queen
Jaray Jenkins
Justin Jefferson*
Though I think Jefferson was more of a grades and qualification ranking than a talent ranking as a recall

Not optimistic about the coach that beat Bama and won the west last year and is set up to do it again? What does he need to do to impress you? Defense is an issue but again it’s year two. Where you on the orgeron train? The Aranda train?

The issue isnt that we are getting commits from 3 star recruits, its that we arent getting any from 5 star recruits.

Honest question- when Causey finishes a mid 4 star in the final rankings, what’s the reaction?
He’s obviously a late bloomer/senior year eval type guy.

Why do you post on this board if you clearly aren't an LSU fan?
Not sure why him and some others are allowed to blatantly troll the site.

All guys who we didn’t “offer” and we ended up eating crow and needing them.
I’ll take a LA Dog all day and I’ll trust the coaches judgment.

Some people look at stars and I look at potential and development. Not all 4 and 5 stars pan out just like not all 2 and 3 stars are underwhelming. Looking back at it, would you've thought Justin Jefferson would've produced the way he did? Compare that to the production you're getting from Sage Ryan. Two different positions yes but the stars would've told you that Sage would've been the better player than Jefferson. Gotta develop them.

has nothing to do with kelly or the offensive staff, making the non-controversial observation the secondary has been subpar this year, and guys like Welch haven't really developed the past 2 years

Three. Stars from Louisiana, equal four stars from every other state.

I looked through our last decade of recruiting classes and the hit rate on 3 stars is pretty spotty which might be expexted. I guess broadly speaking 3 stars are 3 stars for a reason and the lower you go in the talent rankings, the less likely you are to hit on starters in that pool. But the recruiting evaluators can't hit on every guy who's going to outplay his ranking.
Did you happen to look at how many 5 stars aren’t what they were supposed to be either? It’s far more than you think.
It’s hot and miss regardless of star rankings and honestly, you can’t tell me with a straight face you don’t thing these rankings have a bias agenda.
You also can’t say a team of 5 stars will win you a championship. A&M says otherwise
You also can’t say a team devoid of 5 stars can’t win a championship. Clemson sure as hell did it.

3 star U. That'll help us compete with Georgia and Bama
That post gets downvoted into oblivion with responses like "don't be an idiot stargazer. Look at the offer sheet. A&M, Tennessee, Georgia and Oklahoma were after him."
I get frustrated hearing 3* U simply because it's not true. Go look at this year and lasts number of 3* compared the majority of the top 10 teams. We were effectively in a complete rebuild and we aren't materially higher in number of 3* recruits than the majority of the teams in the top 10.
Our 4* recruits are right in line with most top programs as well. We really just need to do a better job of closing on the cream of the crop guys. It's fine to complain about that but people acting like all we get are scrub 3* are completely off base.
