I mean some smart people have been saying for a while it’s not all about NIL. A few weeks ago they had talked anonymously with recruits about this, and the majority of them admitted it’s not about the highest bidder. Some of y’all are just so damn simple.

Id Downs doesn’t want to play at lsu, it doesn’t really matter how much money they have.

LSU regularly beats out programs deemed to have “more money”. To act like lsu is poor is ignorant. The school also routinely pays the most money for coaches, both assistant & head coaches. In the end, the player has to want to play at that school. That is the bottom line

Some good friends of mine coach football at the power 5 level, the other coaches baseball at the FCS level and they told me well before questions are asked about scheme, education, depth chart etc. kids want to know about NIL.

We have to do everything we can to get him. Would completely flip the defense around from last year.

Lol I remember LSU was the first or one of the first schools to actively promote NIL with the "NILSU" videos and banners in Times Square, etc. in 2020.

The only P5 school in the state but according to the rant, LSU don't have money like that or its some of you guys favorite line ... "bK IsNt gEttIng iN aNy bIddInG wArs"

That was when NIL was actually NIL... meaning, use your talent to build your brand and make money through endorsements.

NIL is now just: pay him to play for us and don't worry if it builds their brand or the companies brand

He was the best defensive back in the country as a freshman. Worth millions IMO. He changes an entire defense dramatically.

Imagine the upgrade from Major Burns to Caleb Downs

The only other true freshman DB I can think of that made All America was Derek Stingley (Sting was consensus ).

How long before college football gets a GM(money manager) who takes care of all this and the coach coaches?

Seems as though recruiting really isn’t a thing anymore which sucks because that was one of the things that made college football fun to watch. Watch your team build with depth while also getting to see them grow for 3-4 years in the program. Recruits will sign out of high school for the highest bidder then if not a starter or given more money their second or third year they are gone.

I see why Saban said screw this and retired. Wouldn’t be surprised if Kirby is in the NFL soon. It’s basically the NFL without the players having to sign actual contracts. NFL players who excel above others and are marketable get endorsements to supplement their salary.

NIL was supposed to be based off Name Image Likeness but it’s not that at all. It’s just boosters passing out money.

Enjoy your retirement Saban. He was the GOAT when college football was college football.

By the accounts I’ve heard, we told him we didn’t think he was worth what he was asking and told him to take a hike.

Really hate that it’s turned into this

The NFL became a place where I followed the ex-LSU guys only, at least up until the last few playoff games.

Cincy made it watchable for me with Burrow and Chase the last couple seasons

Now CFB is becoming a place where we can follow ex-LSU players

Boosters are going to tire of this eventually, and schools are already trying to use their TV monies to pay the players

If we have the shot then you have to take it but I think it’s pretty easy to say he’s headed home to Georgia and a big bag.

This kid is a legit stud. As a true freshman, he was probably Alabama's most consistent and flat out best defensive player, which says a lot when you scroll down their roster.

Unfortunately, for the rest of the SEC, all indications point to Georgia as his next landing spot!

It's just a little frustrating how all these big names have entered the portal and we're just not a factor for any of them. Especially at positions of need like CB and S.

If we were going hard at some of these transfers we would be able to completely overhaul the secondary for next year. Downs, Ricks, Amos, another CB and DT, etc.

But we're just not playing the game when we absolutely need to be.
