The calc-based courses are more difficult as they pair the concepts covered in the “easier” pair with the calculations to actually solve the problems.
Yea, the physics students get into it much more than the engineers do. We waited a year then got into the REAL math-physics course called PHYS 2221, which is the intro to mechanics (which is the second time through physics 1). That was ALL math with mechanics and crazy hard…we worked through the Boas book, Mathematical Methods in the Physical Sciences…and the Bressoud book Second Year Calculus.

An A in in Algebra tells me that he actually has study habits. This is good, very good.

100% in English is impressive.
Not just grammar IIRC, a HS senior would be writing at least a few research papers.

I wouldn’t doubt it if we pushed so hard just for his smarts!! Dude may have it all, can’t wait for three years from now

Send Mike over to have a chat with that Physics teacher

Conceptual Physics is pretty basic. It's simple physics with no mathematics.

I'm not putting Underwood down, because those are excellent grades. However, if what he took was conceptual physics... That's not the hard AF stuff. The math on that one is very tame compared to others. No calculus in that one. But as I said, there's nothing to be ashamed of in those grade.

And if he has any issues with Physics in college, I'll get him fixed up.

On a side note, I'm pretty sure Toviano took calculus-based physics in HS (and did well). He's got a really good head on his shoulders too.

Physics was wild when I took it.
First half the year was pretty normal. Projectile motion, forces etc…
but second semester we just got assigned project like build a trebuchet and write a paper on how it works.
And we hadn’t really learned about torche and believe it or not most academic papers on trebuchets are by historians not physicists

Seems like Kelly favours the smart ones.

Somehow I attended HS, took honors courses, then got a degree from LSU in business school but one that required engineering calculus, and skated through all that having never taken a Physics class of any kind.

I Couldn't make an "A" in Physics even if I was banging the teacher!!!

Bout to get into OT territory here, and jumping from HS to college… but the most jarring change of pace I ever experienced was when I tried a programming course at LSU.
Day one I laughed my way home because we spent an hour learning about input devices vs output devices & naming other hardware on a CPU.
Second day we got an overnight homework assignment to write a C++ code to amortize a loan

Physics beat my arse in HS so this kid is Einstein

I taught AP English... his grade for that class is very impressive!
