During the year, did you not see how terrible Helton was on the field?

yeah and that's the risk of giving schollies to kickers

and our staff has not been the best evaluators of talent at the position, and we've given out tons of schollies there

egg didnt someone start a thread on the msb just a couple of days ago about how he averages like 60 ypk but forgot to factor in that you dont count from where you punt, rather the line of scrimmage.

Terrible. Absolutely terrible.

nobody is saying he's terrible at all

hell if he's 75% of what this board built him up to be, he'll be great

the comedy is in our staff's over recruitment of ST specialists, and the high % of misses (like helton

this is a problem and a legit criticism of miles and staff.

But you need a punter and it's 1 scholarship. you can't not have a punter, and hope some walkon manages to boom the shite out of it.

We had many problems, you are right, and Helton was just one of them. That was Jasper pinning Bama back deep.

Yes, Jasper pinned them but that's not flipping the field. Helton had a few punts from LSU territory that he absolutely boomed. You people really are some sandy vaginas some times.

Wouldn't say Helton is a miss.

Giving long snappers like Alex Russian a scholly is maddening though.

After Helton shook the nerves, he was able to improve week after week. 3rd in net punting is what we call a successful year in punting.

A wise, old friend once told me, "Never trust a left-footed kicker."

My thoughts exactly. He started slow, but by the end of the season, our punting was excellent. He has excellent hang time.

You can find a suitable punter without tying up a schollie. If they work out, offer the schollie. Walk ons make great punters. Contrary to popular belief, net punting yds wasn't a problem this year.

Down the line, he may be worth it. Who knows.

If you could give a punter a 5* rating, this kid should receive it. He crushes the football like no one else!

If he has good hang time, could be. Distance isn't the most important factor, hang time is more important. Hope he works out. Net punt yds >>> avg yds per punt. There is the occasional punter drafted into the NFL I s'pose.

The staff clearly tried that. If any of the walk-on punters we had this year were kicking the stuffing out of the ball, I'm sure that we wouldn't have offered Wing. They obviously haven't been good enough.
