re: 2023 LSU WBB won Natty but lost nearly $8M

And the LSU athletic department as a whole made frick you money because of its TV deal. Losing $8m is not that big of a deal, especially considering what they are paying Kim.
What is your basis for saying this? The athletic department generates huge revenues, but I know from work done for LSU and other universities that LSU's athletic department (and most athletic departments) either lose money or make a very modest amount of money. We have made money in the past, but the returns are below market on the revenue invested.
It may be that successful athletic programs drive enrollment and donations to the general fund. So, I suppose what you say is possible in some indirect sense, but I don't know of anyone who has done the math on that. And it's certainly not the case that the athletic program is making a bunch of under-the-table money that we're not reporting.
Generally, schools spend the money because they want to win and raise the school's profile. They're not spending money on coaches and infrastructure because they're going to make a bunch of profit.

O-Line depth is a little scary, but should be a great team. This is making me excited for the fall.

It looks really cool, and I like the symbolism of everyone playing for La (instead of themselves).
re: LSU is ranked number 1 in team transfer portal rankings now. It has updated.

Are the star rankings on this list based on the players’ rankings when they were coming out of high school? Or do they assign them stars based upon their performance in college?

That is so good.
re: Anybody bought bowl tickets yet?
Posted by The King on 12/15/21 at 6:03 pm
I jumped on tickets earlier and sprung for good ones. I might have overpaid a little, they were still cheap by bowl standards. Figured I saved loads of money by not having to travel :-)

Stop trying to make Myles Brennan happen
I'm not trying to make anything happen, 51,000 post-guy. I am just asking if anyone knows if he has recovered from his injury and is able to practice. After three pages of hot takes, it seems like no one knows. If anyone does now, I'm interested in knowing the answer.
Brennan Update?
Posted by The King on 10/25/21 at 9:58 am
Seems like the early prognosis was that he'd be back at some point during the bye week before Bama. Is that still the case? I haven't seen an update in a while.
re: Coaches pay should be based on winning not on the possibility of winning
Posted by The King on 10/19/21 at 6:49 pm
It's obviously not practical, but I understand the OP's point. There are, at all times, coaches making elite money for mediocre performance. That's screwed up. But the trade off here is that there is absolutely no loyalty from colleges to coaches. You can go from national championship to being fired in less than one year. Before anyone flames and says I'm an apologist for O, please chill. I think letting him go was the right decision. My only point, is that it's completely reasonable for coaches to demand big guaranteed contracts, because everyone knows that they're a season or two away from being fired at all times.
re: Can someone explain to me how Clemson is still ranked at 2-2?
Posted by The King on 9/26/21 at 5:21 pm
Texas should have that #25 spot after hanging 70 on Texas Tech. Plus, looks like the Hogs are actually legit, so that loss on the road isn't quite as bad as it seemed at the time.
re: I hope we get the same Brennan back as 2020 for the bama game or at least the Aggie game.

This thread title is like when your grandfather unwittingly writes an entire email in the subject line.

Seriously, does anyone know when he is expected to be back?

re: New LSU president would not give an answer when asked about changing LSU traditions

Guys, chill out. He hasn't even started yet. We don't know if he's going to be good or bad, but the chances of him being successful go way down if half our alumni base is against before he steps foot on campus.
