Beat out Alabama for him.

Had he gone to Alabama the board would be complaining about how we can’t get transfers like him.

We land him and its we’ll see, he might be another Justice Hill.

This is a very big pickup. It was very very important that we get a solid PG to add to our current roster.

Yeah , you are right. He should be recruiting transfers from those major powers that produced Dalton Knecht for Tennessee and Mark Sears for Alabama. At least McMahon got the last name right, huh?

Nelson and burns were decent players but far from some of the best in college basketball

I would guess this guy is much better than Hill. His suitors in the portal are bigger schools, plus, he’s a much better scorer. He scored 30 or more 6 times last season and shot almost 43% from three.

Mark Sears had a BPR of 4.55 at Ohio before transferring to Bama. That made him a Top 150 player before even showing up on campus. Dalton Knecht is very interesting and certainly outperformed any expectations this year at Tenn. He went from not even rating in the Top 1500 players in '23 to being a solid contributor at Tenn this season. He was obviously a good fit for there system but still only rated out as the 6th best player on the team.

It seems like CMM is starting to shape the team with his guys..... I'm hopeful for improvement, being competitive every game next year

I was responding to the poster's mocking of Jordan Sers school. There are good players at every level, some at smaller schools for various reasons. The portal has been great in giving those players a chance to immediately prove themselves in a larger stage.

Really need a big man who can block shots and rebound. The last to big men (KJ & Will)
Were more of pick and pop/ away from the basket guys

Well, there goes the "he can't recruit elite players/transfers outside of Louisiana" narrative.

Sears is a solid pickup but is not elite. Last season, he had a BPR of 2.15, playing against weak competition. For reference, Hannibal rated out at 2.96.

Well, this is where statistics get you in trouble if you're not using context. He was a top 10 pick and roll guard in the country. I want to say he was #6 last season, Cook was #10. He fits our system perfectly and he was 9th in the nation in scoring. I'd say that's elite.

You can look at it a few ways. Maybe Hannibal's BPR shot up so much because of the system he was in(this has to be impossible though because MM can't develop players), and maybe Sears was lower because he was literally the only offense on that team....did you think of it that way?

If you showed me that graphic with no context, I would think it was for the women's team.

More of an indictment on female basketball players than Jordan Sears, but I definitely see it

A solid contributor?

He was Player of the Year in the SEC

The advanced analytics didn't like him last year, and he projects poorly for the SEC. Maybe CMM can beat the analytics, and Sears will be what LSU was missing

sure hope so. I am high on Curtis givens, he plays with future NBA players right now so he should be ready to really fight sears for that starting spot. ideally I would like to see sears back up givens and come in and make threes whilst givens rests.

last year we ran out of gas and Hannibal was bent over tugging his shorts and gasping for air, we needed guard depth after cook was gone. I think now we have it.

now go get a rim protector.

Don’t say that, his best 2 games came against CCELESSA & William Woods College, if that’s not SEC competition than you’re not watching

Are the 3 point lines shorter at UT Martin? Last I checked the courts were the same size and 43% from 3 is good at any program.

I'd be willing to bet the opposite is true. And Givens might even back up Mike Williams too.

Guards for next year:

Jordan Sears
Cam Carter
Mike Williams
Curtis Givens

Wing:

Tyrell Ward
VJ Miller

Bigs:

Jalen Reed
Cory Chest
Derek Fountain
Damion Collins
Robert Miller

Any chance Hunter Dean gets another year of eligibility? We could use a big tough C.
