Great pickup!

Thanks to you all for turning yet another basketball thread into a McMahon v Wade bitchfest.

I wonder if all the retards on the rant/Wade worshipers who have been calling for McMahon’s head will give him any credit if he gets this thing rolling again.

Judging from the percentage of down votes you got, the answer is ‘No’.

The downvotes are due to a certain sect of the fanbase that thinks most fans hate CMM simply because he is not CWW. There are a few who might fit this description but most hope CMM finds success at LSu but are impatient because CWW was able to build his program faster. If CMM turns us into a perennial tournament team like CWW had us, people will stop talking about CWW and be happy with CMM.

I think McMahon can get us there. He just started from literally nothing, had to build a program at the onset of NIL. I wanted to dislike him in the beginning, but I got over it quickly. I hope they both have success. I still miss Wade, but he's not at LSU anymore.

Have you read the in game basketball threads? It’s full on idiocy in there from a significant portion of the rant clamoring for Wade and wanting McMahon’s head on a stick.

It may quiet down a few lunatics, but there will still be people in this fanbase that can’t let the Wade thing go. I didn’t want Wade fired either, but he’s gone and never coming back. McMahon deserves support from the fanbase and I believe he’s going to make LSU a tourney contender annually going forward with a chance to make a deep run every few years.

Because CWW won and CMM has not up to this point. If CMM wins, the clamoring mostly stops.

Hell Jay Johnson was one season removed from winning a Natty and there were more than a few people in game threads wanting him fired. People on this board don't tend to be rational when we are losing.

Support is earned by winning. Sorry, dems da rules.

McMahon's record is 31-35 (11-25). There have been a few good moments, but otherwise not a lot to be excited about. When the former coach was winning and reaching NCAA Tournaments every season, then taking a completely shite program, McNeese, to it's best season in school history you can understand why people would be "clamoring" for the former coach. I think ANY fanbase would feel the same way.

Winning curse all...always. Very few were excited about Les when he was hired. Then he won, and won often, by 2007 everyone loved him. Even less people were excited about the Orgeron hire. Then he won and by the end of 2019 everyone loved him.

It's NO different here. If McMahon wins the fans will support him. Until that happens though the program will be mired in apathy.

Like any product, good, or service, "support" is earned. Put a good product out in the marketplace and people will support it. That is how it is always been. No one gave a damn about LSU baseball...until they started winning. Same for women's basketball. And gymnastics. There was once a time in the early 90's where you couldn't give football tickets away. Is that because the fans colluded to baselessly not support Archer and Hallman? Where they not "deserving"? Or was it because people didn't want to commit time and money to supporting a poor product?

The fans want McMahon to win. Just like they did Brady, and Johnson, and Jones, and Wade. If/when that happens they will show up. Until then, it's silly to say the coach arbitrarily "deserves" support. Earn it! Win games! Make fans want to be a part of it!

Getting good players is half the battle. But you also have to produce with them. Hopefully this is the year that starts to happen

I realize winning cures all, but people act like McMahon walked into a situation where he should have hit the ground running and been competitive. LSU was one of the worst jobs in the country three years ago from a national PR stand point along with the entire roster being gutted. The talent is vastly improved and looks like it will continue getting better.

Three years ago having the roster completely gutted was unheard of. Now, we see that it is pretty much the norm when a coaching change is made (regardless of reason). As John Calipari said in his opening press conference at Arkansas: "I met with the team -- There is no team." Others have taken depleted rosters, rebuilt them, and quickly found success. So it's a bit silly to say LSU fans expectations are too high. Especially considering those expectations aren't very high to begin with.

Also, to say LSU was as one of the "worst jobs in the country three years ago from a national PR stand point" is revisionist history. Those who covered basketball certainly didn't see it that way at the time. Despite Wade being fired under less than ideal circumstances, and despite all of the roster being gone or in the portal (in April) LSU was picked to finish 8th in the SEC that season. Many publications predicted LSU was a fringe NCAA Tournament team. No one looked at the roster and McMahon and thought LSU would be THAT bad. No one! Also, despite the "ominous" cloud of sanctions, LSU got hit with virtually no sanctions. They lost two scholarships over two years. However, in reality they didn't lose any because LSU used loopholes to field full rosters in both seasons. McMahon dug a hole no one expected to be so deep that he has since been working to get out of. You can't blame the fans for having little faith at this point.

Can LSU build off a solid SEC portion of the schedule last year? Anyone who is an LSU basketball fan genuinely hopes so. However, McMahon is not getting the benefit of the doubt. Despite the optimism of the fanbase thinking this is a good roster, LSU is going to be picked to finish at or near the bottom of the SEC this year. The support is not going to be there no matter how much some might think he "deserves" it. Sports is a results oriented business. He has to earn it. If the roster truly is improved and McMahon is now comfortable being a major conf. coach the results should manifest this season. If not, then you are left saying, once again, these offseason recruiting signings are nice...but to what end?

Outside of Kentucky and Arkansas, name one. Then tell us what trouble they were in when it happened.

Calipari, please... didn't he have Walmart guarantee him some ridiculous amount in NIL? Take this nonsense to the Rant.

Using calipari as an example of a faster turnaround is hilarious considering we beat him last year.

CMM is building a really good program and building it the right way!
I’m an optimist and I see this team being an Elite Eight team!
