Shea is a good dude and I would stop short of saying he’s doing fluff pieces, but he definitely isn’t in a position to just tell it like it is. Most of what they do is recruiting anyway, so it will naturally have a positive tone. I only remember a couple instances of straight Orgeron spin.

I agree. I like him. It doesn't mean he's always right though.

but anyway Ree...I thought you didn't believe in the ranking sites or "experts" as you always refer to them or do you only tout those rankings when it suits you?

My concern is that Shea and some of these other local guys turn into a mouthpiece for the O regime. Im glad we got Parrish, but 3 months ago Gunnel was a "must get" and as soon as he spurns us and we end up with a different QB hes the better of the two?

He’s never seemed as high on Gunnell as others, so I’ll defend him on that. Like I said earlier, Gunnell has a lot of detractors.

That's great, and frankly I don't follow the local guys as much as I used to, but hopefully these guys are staying true to their opinions.

I don't believe this about Shea. I do for some other folks who do this for a living, but Shea has been pretty straight forward since Orgeron took over.

I'm actually impressed. Over the last 8-9 months, it's felt like the program couldn't get any momentum going, be it due to coaching or luck or whatever. All of a sudden, there's a glimmer of that "force to be reckoned with" image and gravity the program seemed to exude for about a decade.

If we can get one or two more big OL linemen on board, the pieces will be there.

I don't either. I definitely need to work on it.

Yup Lamar was a three star, I actually knew that. I didn’t know his times were any where near that “slow.”

I expected much faster times

BEAR MARKET – Adonis Otey

This is not an award you want, as it represents the players whose stock dropped the most during the event. In a tough call I’ll go with Otey, who really struggled in coverage quite a bit.

Honorable mention: Arizona quarterback commitment Grant Gunnell was one of many signal callers to struggle, along with Bryce Young and Drew Pyne from the 2020 class. While each had their moments, they are all ranked a bit too high, based on this performance at least. Miami commitment Te’Cory Couch lacks great size and got pushed around, and defensive lineman Lloyd Summerall also struggled.

quote:

TUNNEL VISION – Grant Gunnell

This goes to the quarterback who locked in on his target the most and it led to a few bad decisions. Gunnell had his moments, but he threw some big picks as well during the 7-on-7 portion of things.

Honorable mention: Bryce Young also tended to lock in on his target a bit too much.

quote:

THE WINDUP AND THE PITCH – Bryce Young

This goes to the quarterback who had the most deliberate delivery on the day, and it was clearly Young. He was slow in his release and for some reason didn’t look like himself during drills and the 7-on-7. His release was low and slow throughout the day, which is unlike him.

Honorable mention: Grant Gunnell still has a bit of a windup of a delivery and needs to tighten it up a bit.

Seems that Mike Farrell of Rivals agrees with Shea Dixon of 24/7 on Gunnel.

To be mentioned three times when all of them are in bad categories you don't want to appear in definitely gives Shea's observations credence.

Farrell Awards: Time to hand out hardware for #RivalsChallenge

This gets me excited about the O-line guys coming in.

Anyone notice how far Gunnell has fallen in the rankings. Last year he was a 5-star.
