Are Thomas Perry and Joseph Evans under rated?

Any reports on them lately and has anyone on here seen either of them play this year and have an opinion on them?
Being Evans is our only DT commitment at this time and is rated the 42nd DT recruit and 621 overall in the country by 247. Listed at 6'3" 305lbs.
Thomas Perry listed at 6'5" 325lbs. 41st ranked OT and 427 recruit overall in the country
I know that LSU has had a good success rate on these low ranked guys in the past, and if they like him enough to offer, they have to be good, but what do you think the staff sees in them?

There was a thread a couple months ago on Thomas Perry - the guy knew the family.. says he's a bring the work pale to lunch kinda guy and he had great blood lines. Dude is massive, if he puts in the work, he seems to have all the physical tool?

Good questions and I've also been wondering about them (Evans more than Perry).

there is a thread that lists the lowest ranked player in each of the last 10 or so classes and it is quite impressive. Just off the top of my head: Morreau and Cushenberry both were the lowest ranked recruits, other than JUCOs and special teamers, in their respective classes.

Right but look at every other 3 star in Cush’s class.
I think They combine for like 0 starts outside Culp who started by default.
And Moreau’s class the second best in there is Magee, and Moreau is more of a grinder than an all star.

I like seeing 325 lb lineman in the class if they are solid. Can put them in the weight room and can be massive in a couple years. Wonder if he has the feet to stay at tackle?
watched the Evans doing the one on one drills video that was posted and he doesn't look huge or really all that big, is fairly solid and moved well though.

I watched Perry when ND played Teurlings and the kid looked good. They got beat pretty bad by ND but, individually, he handled his assignments.

Staff sees depth and someone that hasn’t reached their ceiling.
That, with a strong character kid can turn into a solid program player.

A 247 mod saw Perry recently and said he is sound but lacked a mean streak (so, not like Kardell Thomas if that makes sense).
Evans is interesting, he's probably at least a little better than his ranking but by how much is a huge question, he didn't really do a lot of offseason stuff to get noticed. I dont think Evans is a Top 200/300 player, but maybe Top 500.

OK I just looked at the 2017 class, most recent class that we can get a good read on as the 2018 is to early to tell anything.
The bottom 5 are Justin Jefferson: superstar in the making,
Tory Carter: monster FB and great get by the staff (I at the time seriously questioned why are we wasting a schollie. Lesson learned, staff knows best), Moffit: special situation, Stewart: don't even know what happened to him, Kirkland: looks like he is going to be a good player for LSU. Staff really seems to like him as they are trying to get him involved in the offense.
So taking out Stewart and Moffit as they really don't count due to circumstances and add in the #6 and #7 guys to fill out the bottom 5.
Racey McMath: guy seems to be talented but we are have way to many potential superstars at the position. They are trying him at TE, which I like the move. Could be a good asset at TE.
Justin Thomas: DE, to early to tell. Doesn't seem to be a bust though and may contribute in the future.
and if you go to the bottom 10, it still looks real good. Didn't realize how good that class was, or could be, until I just looked at it.
if Tyler Shelvin would get his shite together that class would really be super solid. Doesn't look like any complete misevaluations in that class.

I mean, you're not wrong, but you are looking at what is turning out to be one of our best top to bottom classes ever.

I’ve watched Evans play the past few years. I really don’t know if he’s underrated or not, but I can tell you he’s going to be a good one. Smart, high character, hardworking kid. He has very little fat on his 300lb frame. He has tree trunk thighs and has a quick burst off the line of scrimmage. It’s rare to see guys 300+ at the high school level with his type of quickness. He has been beating double teams all year and still has the ability to make plays in the backfield. He reminds me a little bit of Davin Cotton the DT from last years signing class. Similar body type and both quick burst off the line.

Thanks for the info. This all sounds exciting!

I agree The 2017 class looks better for 3 stars even if you point out that FBs are generally all 3*s and Carter was #3 FB in the nation (#2 if you count #1 switching to LB)

yes, that is the one I really wonder about. Seems like a bit of a reach right now, a body just to fill a need, which doesn't seem like something the staff would do that early in the recruiting cycle, unless they just don't feel like they are going to be able to land enough of the big fish at the position. I don't know who else offered but he just seems more like a Louisiana Tech DT to me. I just don't know enough about him to question it though and should know better than to question their evals, especially of a defensive lineman.

sorry about the above post (the one I posted) as I was writing it while you were posting and didn't read your eval until after I had posted.

No problem. I think a lot of the reason Joseph isn’t rated higher is because he doesn’t go to a whole lot of camps in the off-season. LSU is the only one that I know of that he’s gone to. He received his first offer from LSU and committed on the spot. I honestly don’t think he cares whether he receives another offer, he’s all LSU. Also, he plays for a small 1a school and it’s not always easy to get recognized.

My sauces have told me perry is a freak, could play basketball easily with his athleticism. He just doesn’t have a mean streak.
Idk about Evans

A couple plays from Evans. Great burst off the ball, he’s been making plays like this for 3 years now.
