A couple plays from Evans. Great burst off the ball, he’s been making plays like this for 3 years now.

I know that's about Evans, but holy cow at Camron Jackson making everyone look tiny.

CamRon is a head taller than everyone on the field every Friday! He’s close to 6’7 and I believe he’s only 15 years old. I graduated with his Mom and his Dad was an all-state LBer for Haynesville in 2000. He used to roll me up like a dirty booger everyday at practice!

under rated seems to be trend with ED O recruiting. Hope we can start getting more top line players again with a great season instead of just a few sprinkled in.

Haynesville always schedules larger schools to play in non-district. Obviously we can’t help what district we play in. Doesn’t matter either way, I’ve seen Evans blow up double teams against kids his size. I see your from Homer. Sounds like you may be a little bitter because Haynesville has been kicking yall’s arse since the game of football was invented.

1a has plenty of size. Depth? Not so much. 1a Oak Grove has one of the biggest OL’s in the state. Haynesville’s OL averages 6’0 255lbs. I’d say that’s a big OL for any class and we aren’t close to the biggest OL in 1a.

there is a thread that lists the lowest ranked player in each of the last 10 or so classes and it is quite impressive

This is an article done by the 24/7 guy (Shea Dixon) who runs the LSU site. It shows that 6 of the lowest rated LSU recruits the last 10 classes have played in the NFL. AND that is with 3 still attending classes at LSU.

This is just the LOWEST rated recruit for each class the last 10 years excluding JUCOs and special teams players - kickers, long snappers, punters.

quote:

2008: Lavar Edwards No. 959 overall prospect, No. 32 in Louisiana
He was a fifth round pick in the NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans

2009: Josh Williford No. 1,066 overall prospect, No. 34 in Alabama
Injuries forced him to call off his football career. He served out his final year on campus as a student coach for the Tigers in 2013.

2010: Alfred Blue No. 66 RB, No. 758 overall prospect, No. 19 in Louisiana
a sixth round NFL Draft selection by the Houston Texans, where he was on roster from 2014-17.

2011: Ronald Martin No. 43 CB, No. 624 overall prospect, No. 24 in Louisiana
signed by the Seattle Seahawks as an unrestricted free agent following the 2015 NFL Draft. He’s since spent time in the NFL with the Seahawks, the New York Jets, the Baltimore Ravens and two stints with the Indianapolis Colts.

2012: Kavahra Holmes No. 86 WR, No. 763 overall prospect, No. 30 in Louisiana
announced he was transferring out of LSU

* A side note, the second-lowest ranked recruit in LSU’s class that year was Jalen Mills, who went on to start immediately as a true freshman at LSU and was a starter in the secondary for the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles this past year.

2013: Duke Riley No. 42 OLB, No. 539 overall prospect, No. 22 in Louisiana
he went on to be selected in the third round of the NFL Draft with the No. 75 overall pick by the Atlanta Falcons.

2014: Russell Gage No. 74 ATH, No. 898 overall prospect, No. 32 in Louisiana
LSU’s Pro Day in April catapulted him up NFL Draft boards, with many mock drafts pointing to Gage as a late-round steal for an NFL team.

2015: Foster Moreau No. 74 TE, No. 1,984 overall prospect, No. 86 in Louisiana
a multi-year starter at tight end who is now one of the team’s veteran leaders - and certainly a name in the mix to take over the No. 18 jersey. Moreau’s slated to start at tight end again for LSU this fall.

2016: Lloyd Cushenberry No. 82 OG, No. 1,522 overall prospect, No. 71 in Louisiana
Fast forward two years and Cushenberry is now the heir apparent to Ethan Pocic and Will Clapp as the team’s next starting center, a position he took the first-team reps at this spring.

2017: Justin Jefferson No. 308 WR, No. 2,164 overall prospect, No. 76 in Louisiana
It appears Jefferson will be a starter for the Tigers during his sophomore season next fall.

And none of these players were ranked in the top 20 at their positions. Even the five that have ALREADY played in the NFL. If Gage gets drafted (HE DID) that will be six of the 10 lowest rated recruits to play in the NFL. With Moreau, Cushenberry and Jefferson still playing at LSU.

Closer Look: LSU's lowest-ranked signees over 10 years

The link may not work right now. 24/7 has been down for a while - or since I have been trying to access it.

Evans is no where near 6’3”. Will take him a few years to contribute. He’s a Josh Downs type of prospect imo.

This is false. He’s a bit over 6’2”. Glenn Dorsey was just a shade under 6’2”. Not comparing the 2 in any way, just making a point that being tall doesn’t mean shite....I don’t get the Downs comparisons. I guess because they’re both 3* prospects. Downs was 6’1 275lbs coming into LSU. Joseph was bigger than that as a sophomore in high school. I said earlier that he has more of a Davin Cotton body type.

Seems like a bit of a reach right now, a body just to fill a need, which doesn't seem like something the staff would do that early in the recruiting cycle,

I think you answered your own question. Evans was offered and committed a year ago. If the staff believed he was only a 3* talent, he is not getting an offer with over a year before signing day. Plus, he committed on the spot. The staff knew they could slow play him if he was just a body to fill out the class.

He is a small school guy, and and his level of competition is always a concern, but it also means he doesn’t get a lot of exposure. He had a good showing at the LSU lineman camp this summer. It was the first time many observers got to see him up close, and all the reports were positive.

Hope that Joseph plays like two other of the Evans Clan from Haynesvil!e, NFL'ers Doug and Demetric.

He was probably 6 ' 1" when he committed as a junior and has grown an inch. DT Demetric Evans played at Georgia in the 90's and bounced around the NFL for a few years and is Joes cousin. Also cousin with Doug Evans who was a CB who played at Louisiana Tech and in the NFL. So good blood lines.

Of course we want the high ranked kids, but what I see is the staff has done it's homework on the in state kids and finds players that may not camp and are off radar. It's due diligence more than "settling". It comes from talking to and building relationships with the area HS coaches.

No I only made the Downs conparison because they look like similar prospects to me. Stocky DL with quick hands and feet that can shoot gaps. If he has grown that’s great because the pic I saw of him with all the prospects at Boys from the Boot I think he looked pretty short compared to the other guys.

He’s definitely quick like Downs. I think Downs would’ve benefited much more playing in the defense we run now. He would be better suited as a 3-4 DE than a 4-3 DT. I read an article after Evans camped at LSU this summer that said he came in just a hair under 6’3” and a shade under 300lbs.
