Apparently the overall #1 recruit Arch Manning was not even the QB on the 2a all state

They may not be considering future potential and are focusing on performance in high school.

Some high school kids put up ridiculous numbers but don’t have nearly the future potential. Just look at the stat lines in MaxPreps. Manning isn’t in the top 10. Actually he’s all the way down at 31. While Manning has higher future potential, I can understand the difficulty in overlooking kids who played their best games in high school.

Manning is highly ranked bc of his name

His arm is above average

But nothing he has done has him looking like a future #1 player.

By a lot

Stronger arm
Better athlete

And has actually shown that he can go through progressions.
Though he looked a lot worse once his go to Jack Bech was in BR.

I agree. Just like Max Johnson will not win a Super Bowl.

I didn't think Eli was all that great coming out of high school, he just didn't seem to have the fire in him like Peyton. Boy was I wrong. I think it would be safe to say that Arch will be a very good QB in college.

Came out blazing as what? A 9th grader or 10th, then has pretty much just been mehhhh. Not saying he won't be a good QB, but he will have to earn it, but his current ranking is because of his last name.

I find it hard to believe he only threw for 1300 yards in a season. Very hard

I guess with maybe Ida they didn’t play as many games so it could be possible..

It is correct that the MaxPreps stats don't include all of his games. However, reporting is that he finished with just over 2,000 yards passing, which would put him somewhere close to the top 12 or so. USA Today

I'm not suggesting he isn't a good player or that he doesn't have serious upside potential in college or pro football. All I'm suggesting is that when these people who follow high school sports have to select who is the most valuable player in a given high school season, it becomes difficult to overlook a kid who put up 3,000 yards passing to give the award to a Manning who put up 1,000 fewer yards because the Manning has potential on the next level. They shouldn't be giving high school MVP awards to a player based on his college recruiting profile. Some of these high school kids who don't have the measurables to be attractive as recruits for D-1 quarterback have tremendous high school seasons. Therefore, they should get the high school awards.

He’s gone from overrated to just flat out being disrespected as a prospect lol

Y’all are too lazy to even watch his film or what?

This thread is a non-story. High school awards, like all-state, are generally given based on on-the-field performance.

Recruiting rankings are based on potential.

The two do not necessarily agree.

There have been many situations where a highly recruited player was left off of all-state teams, in place of a guy who was not a college prospect at all, but had a better year on the prep level.
