Any Chance We Make a Bigger Offer for McKinley?

Naturally, I have no idea what’s been offered to him, if anything. I hate to ask the question, but I feel like it has to be addressed. I’ve heard our philosophy is to compensate players for their production once they’re at LSU rather than in H.S., which is good, but not how some of our competition is handling recruiting.
The news that ATM is now potentially the favorite definitely suggests NIL is important here, and you have to think we’ll at least try to give ourselves a chance with him.
IMO, he’s by far the most important recruit to land in this class. We didn’t sign any DTs in last year’s class and only have one, 3 star DT commit in this class. I don’t know of any other DTs we’re trending for in this class, and most DTs from the portal have been upperclassmen.
ATM took Weston Davis from us last minute after all signs (including a Fong prediction) pointed our way. They also surprised everyone when they landed Coleman, and they took Blake Ivey after it seemed like we’d made up a lot of ground. They’ll likely land Bussey as well.
We owe them one and we’re due for a surprise commit. I hope we find a way to land McKinley tomorrow.

By all accounts, BK does not want to get into these six figure bidding wars for high school kids who may or may not pan out. I agree with his approach to direct NIL funds to guys who are playing well at LSU. A$M is back to paying out the arse for top recruits again like they did two years ago. You mentioned multiple recruits that committed to them when they were thought to be heading elsewhere. They remind me of the ugly drunk girl after prom desperate to get laid.

Yep. With the portal, I got zero issues passing up on these high school kids who want to get you in a bidding war with other schools. You can always pick players like this up in the portal and it’s even better because they already have a year or two experience under them.
I’m not advocating for just relying on the portal, but missing out of a few of these players just doesn’t sting nearly as much as it once did now that the portal is what it is.

It ain’t about the money
CBK and crew got out recruited. They got beat for the best player in the state

Is he really the best player in the state or is he an archie manning type best player in the state?

I'm sure we could make a bigger offer but what if the offers aren't the difference? Those kids TAM "stole" were hard TAM leans for most of the cycle so not really a surprise they won out.(davis/ivey;everyone passed on Coleman)Doesn't it make as much sense that when we were trending that we made higher offers and were the ones pushing weight then got pushed over? Easy to cast stones when we have no clue the conversations being had. My question is, if we are making impressive offers to cause a surge our way then having them topped(doubtful significantly) why not add a little to the pot instead of excusing it by saying "we aren't getting in bidding wars"? You were in a bidding war and gave up. It's embarrassing.

I think he's legit. His recruiting profile says he's a future 1st round pick.
Dandy Don said LSU has really gone into full court press but i think its too late.
There is no way they should lose out to OU for a player 50 miles down the road.

It’s too late to get his commitment today, but the staff still plans to use his OV this fall for a game. We’ll see if that changes anything in his recruitment.

Please share your inside knowledge on the LSU recruitment of McKinley.
Just what I thought……you have none. Nega-nancy.

Why you don't throw tons of money at a 5 star recruit?
Two words, "Ish Sophser".
Better to use that money on a proven commodity.

I usually agree with you, but I see this one differently.
Yes, he is a top talent from an area that LSU RARELY loses a player. And at a position that is in need of top end talent.
But it is exactly this situation shows shows the TYPE of kid involved. What, exactly, is he motivated by? This trashy recruiting process shows a lot about a kids make up.
Having said this, I do not know any details about this recruitment. Maybe Bo just treated momma better and earlier than the others.
My point to you is that you seem to think we should “pay a little more”, and then “a little more”….thus getting into a bidding war. It is not embarrassing to lose out on situations like that.

How does one get out-recruited if the kid wants to leave the State - is not like Louisiana is a magnet

I was listening to 98.1 on drive to work and caught a bit of Condons talk about McKinley. He said there was going to be a big big day for LSU concerning Mckinley. Did anyone hear the show this morning that can comment on this?

Condon was clueless 20 years ago. It's possible Dom has a change of heart but I could never consider Condon a source on anything.

No way on God's green Earth is he the best player in Louisiana. He would be a nice addition, but please.

McKinley is but McBryde is close
McKinley has the most potential and plays a more valuable position
McBryde is the better HS football player right now

24/7 and On3 disagree but you’re the expert so please go on.
24/7 has him 31 spots above the next highest ranked Louisiana player. He’s the number 1 player in LA on all the recruiting sites.

He was not impressive at all in the Jamboree vs STM
