5 star Tight End Arik Gilbert commits to LSU

I hope LSU hangs on to Kole Taylor. Just don't know if they plan on taking 2 TE's. On another thread I mentioned that I like Taylor a whole lot more for this offense than I like Gilbert. As far as blocking is concerned I like Gilbert a whole lot more, but in this offense I see Taylor as a better receiver, better open field agility and better top end speed. Not that I don't like Gilbert, just like Taylor better for this offense. I see Taylor as more of a Jimmy Graham type that fits the WR/TE hybrid that NFL teams are playing.

Arik Gilbert is better than Kole Taylor point blank period. You can come up with all the reason you like him but they still don’t compare to the athlete Gilbert is at the TE position. We have the TE we wanted so now it’s time to move on from Taylor. Taylor was always a backup plan just in case we missed out on Washington and Gilbert. So, we took his commitment while still recruiting the top 2 TE in the country.

Taylor is a great fit in this offense, but Gilbert is a freak in any offense. You can’t coach the gifts he has or develop them over 3-4 years. This kid is a future NFL tight end with receiver traits. I think we only take 1 in this class which is tough because Taylor is really good.

I think you have to hang on to Taylor. LSU has two tight ends - Moss and Pettigrew, who appears to have not bounced back well from his injury. They’ll both be seniors next year too.

So that leaves Gilbert, Carter, who isn’t even tight end, and walk-ons.

We also have Ray Parker and Charles Turner who could possibly move back to tight end if they get squeezed by the numbers at linebacker and offensive line

A big TE that's agile and can catch the ball creates mismatches all over the field. frick yeah.

If a young man visits Death Valley and can play for the Tigers of Baton Rouge, why not?
It's an amazing institution, Geaux Tigers!

Thank you. Anybody but Lester makes the post he did and everyone would understand and up-vote. Some hair triggers on this board.

Unfortunately, I would expect both of these players to enter the transfer portal during the spring semester.

I certainly hope we hang on to both TEs. Tay!or and Gilbert are excellent athletes and we need both. I know numbers are tight, but I just cannot see a TE of Taylor's caliber not being a part of this class if he wants in the class.
