Colin Hurley, 2024 QB, LSU commit (in-person coverage): Hurley remains one of the more polarizing quarterbacks in the 2024 cycle. He has impressed time and time again on the offseason camp circuit – including at this summer’s Elite 11 Finals – but the on-field product has yet to really match up with the potential. Friday was another reminder that Hurley is very much a work in progress. In Trinity Christian’s loss, we had him unofficially 5 of 18 passing for 64 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Hurley never really found a rhythm and struggled to hit his marks. -- Ivins

Seems we've heard this before. Maybe it's time we started believing it...

quote:

Jelani Watkins, 2024 Top247 WR, LSU commit (online stream): the LSU-bound track speedster provided a couple of first-half big plays in Atascocita's thrilling 42-34 win vs. Katy in a matchup of Houston-area powers. He got wide open for a long TD pass early, gained 10 yards on a swing that saw him make something out of nothing, and returned a kickoff beyond the 30-yard line after fielding it deep in his own end zone. An offensive staff can get really creative with Watkins, who could provide immediate return game competency. -- Gabe Brooks, 247Sports national scouting analyst

quote:

Davhon Keys, 2024 LB, LSU commit (in-person coverage): Keys was only credited with three tackles on the night, but his biggest impact was felt in the passing game where he provided several hurries and one sack. Keys also contributed on offense with 26 yards and a touchdown on three carries. Keys is assembled well from a physical standpoint and he moves well both as a run defender and dropping into coverage. -- Roach

I will happily admit that I'm wrong if/when the time comes, but I've never been overly impressed with Hurley. He seems like a good kid. He says all the right things. He appears very much all in on LSU. That's great. But then you watch some of his game film and it's just average. Perhaps that is because he is very young for his class. But I wonder if this is the new approach to HS QB recruiting. Let's take a guy we can lock in early to see if he develops. If so, great! If not, we can pull an experienced player out of the portal.

Outside of Joe the last good QB we had was Mett? Etling was serviceable, but also a transfer, and Mett was also a transfer… we’re cursed

No reason for a QB to reclassify, he needs to stay in high school because he's not getting any snaps next year

CC, any news on Bryce? Seems like we need him. A lot.

Or the kid from TN?

Nuss is good. We just won’t play him

Those are worse than Max Johnson high school stats and we saw how that turned out.

Hopefully Collins develops or we land Underwood or MacIntyre

They're all in for Bryce but so is Michigan. The feeling that I get which realize I have no insider information is that this will be another go for the prized national recruit but he ends up going to Michigan in the end.

MacIntyre is either Tennessee or Alabama.

Feels like both he and the staff want him on campus asap so he can start learning the system, hit the workout and nutrition programs, and start building a relationship with teammates. Next year Nuss and Collins will be QB 1 and 2 so it feels like they will have him redshirt his freshmen year. Just a guess on my part. Only real benefits I can see to having him here earlier and not burn up his eligibility window.

With that said we should still be going all in to land a top QB in the next class and let the chips fall where they may in terms of who starts after Nuss.

Hurley reclassifying is really dumb and the coaching staff should’ve pulled the scholarship when he did that.

They really thought that they were getting Sayin before he popped to Bama.

Any high school quarterback who watched the game against Florida State has to be dropping LSU lower on his list. No running game, poor pass protection, poor route concepts, no creativity. Lots of more attractive options for quarterbacks than LSU right now.

No way he comes here barring Daniels suddenly developing and our offense being very dynamic.

Also I believe it will be highest bidder for him.

I agree about lsu not developing qbs, but Michigan's offense last year wasn't any better than lsu in terms of total offense.

They need to get in on a 3rd guy. Even if he is a 4 star type of guy who develops late

Right. Then they probably convinced hurley to reclassify.

I know this board is biased, but when will we start mentioning recruiting falling a smidge under BK?
