Those Hondas run no matter what. Cranked mine with fuel from the national championship game. Ran fine on the second pull.

On my Briggs and Stratton 5500 Storm Responder, I couldn't get the bowl off the rest of the carburetor. The little screws were starting to strip and would not budge. No corrosion on them, they look normal. How would I remove the screws without totally stripping them?

I had the same issue.

I used a pair of needle nose vise grips to initially break it free before using a screwdriver.

channellocks are your friend. the channellock brand, not any cheap imitations.

Dude, same model, same exact problem. I just stopped before the screws were nothing.

Tried channel locks, hammer, every screwdriver. Nothing.

The Yamaha Inverters are even better than the Hondas and are cheaper

Ain't that a bitch! Almost like a scam.

I bought another generator a couple days ago but will try the channel locks/vise grip as well. I thought about that but figured it might just crush the screw head.

If my power stays on a little longer I'll take a shot at it.

I was helping my buddy work on his and it had gas pouring out of the carb, after we got it running. Appears the carburetor gasket was dry rotted. Sucks.

(so glad I've been running mine a couple times a year since Gustav)

Do y'all have a little propane torch? Heat the crap out of them, I've even put shite in the oven before. The heat will make the screw lengthen and will turn much much easier.

I got the screws off the carburetor, finally. One with channel locks, the other with vise grips. Cleaned out the jet that runs down the center. The end closest to the bottom of the bowl was clogged. Cleared it and now it runs pretty good. The problem is it seems to thump a bit when its in the open run position. At half choke its smoother. Does this mean anything? Should I run it at half choke or will that cause problems and burn through gas rapidly?

If you have the jet open enough to run in the run position,Seafoam in the tank will open it up the rest of the way. You have it partially open. Running it on choke is not a good idea since the incoming fuel is unregulated.

I don't see how it's not completely clear. I used a needle to open it up and then sprayed carb cleaner. It looked great. Nothing else I may have screwed up? BTW, it's not bad it's just not as smooth all the way open versus half way open. I don't have seafoam.

Will running it with that every 3-4 second sort of bump sound be a big problem?

Thanks.

Mine does EXACTLY the same thing if I open the choke all the way after I had so much trouble getting it started during our last power outage. I used to be able to open the choke all the way and it would smooth out, but now I just open the choke to the first "click" from fully closed and it smooths out. If I open it any more than that first "click" it starts to stutter and "bump" as you describe. Didn't do that before I had the problem starting it. I do have some Seafoam, though. How much Seafoam to mix with about 3 gallons of gas that's in the tank now? Thanks!

Fired up my generator yesterday for the first time in over a year, with the same gas in it. Battery was dead but it cranked on the first pull. Yay Honda!

I pulled on my honda a few times, nothing. Then I choked it and it cranked and has been running like a champ since 7 this morning.

Half bottle seafoam for 3 gallons of fuel.
If any of you guys generators are not running smooth with the choke wide open then there's still a blockage somewhere in the main jet area.

One big tip I can give to those that have the carb bowls with the single big bolt in the bottom vs the two small screws that strip easily .

That large bolt supplies fuel to the main jet. The bolt has one large hole through the center and some snap holes in the side towards the bolt head. Make sure all of these holes are wide open.
