"no Levee's to protect it from Lake P and they've been getting pured on for almost 24 hours now."

That explains it then, I've never really explored around that area and assumed there were levee's on the lake. The St. John board is saying it has never flooded there before so I was wondering if there was a levee breach somewhere.

WBRZ said a few minutes ago (Sylvia Weatherspoon) that the LaPlace flooding is a result of the pumps in New Orleans working so well resulting in the water being pumped out of New Orleans so fast.

I kid you not. She said it with a straight face.

That would be a nice lawsuit.

Lost cox cable about three hours ago. What's up with the storm? I'm in south br, and it seems like we've had a light drizzle with minimal winds for the last two hours. Not quite What I would expect for being in the eastern quad with the eye so close to us.

I lost power at 1 am this morning.

I had to drive to my dad's early when I realized we were the only people without power in our immediate vicinity.

..and we are one of the newer neighborhoods.

Boat says the worst is yet to come. I posted several hours ago the worst sustained winds were over.

I was right.....

Thats because St. John has never experienced a major hurricane following this track. If this was a cat 3 or higher you would see parts of LaPlace with 10+ feet of water on top of the wind damage associated with a larger storm. The Parish gov't acknowledged this fact a few years ago but little has been done to fix this issue other than "environmental studies". Hopefully this storm will be a wakeup call to the parish gov't and they build some sort of flood protection against lake pontchatrain.

Having the center coming so close to Baton Rouge is really helping us out. The center is starting to deteriorate and what's left of the worst of the storm is east of the center.

It blows my mind that there is no levee on that side of the lake.
