Will removing cypress tree roots from my yard kill my neighbors tree?

I just bought a house and in our new back yard a section has these little tree roots about the size of a softball that stick up in a 10x10 radius. Will digging these up and removing them kill my neighbors tree? They are definitely a tripping hazard, but I don’t want to start off on the wrong foot with the neighbors.
I believe they are cypress roots. I may be mistaken. But they are poking out of the ground. Having a landscaper come look at the yard next week for drainage, so I’ll get his input as well.

don’t dig them up, just whack off at ground level with a chainsaw

Whack them at ground level with an ax or machete. I did this multiple times and haven't killed the neighbors trees yet.

Get a good reciprocating saw and cut them off at the dirt.

A multitool will also work.
I keep those in my yard trimmed with my mower.

I have a neighbor with cypress trees and have roots coming up in my yard.
I will e digging and cutting up the roots in my yard in the next few weeks.
If the trees die, not my problem.

Preferred methods for most, no doubt

I have a mower I keep just for that area of the yard. It is a crappy old mower and I don't care what happens to it. The blade looks like it has been cutting...cypress knees.

I’ve got some kind of ground cover/vine on the side of the driveway where I park. I got a brush cutter to cut it back this week. I started cutting it and then felt like I hit something solid all of a sudden. I started pushing the vines around a realized it was a cypress knee. I found about 10 of them that are all at least a foot tall. I ended up cutting the vines back to where it’s even with the driveway which ended up giving me about a foot of driveway back. I was wondering the same thing so I didn’t cut the knees yet.

I've got 4 mature cypress trees in my yard. I keep the knees mowed and do not have a problem. They are nice looking trees.
But I will not plant more.

From the land of first time home ownership

Never had to think about this before.

The knees have one root on one side and another on the opposite side that runs just under the ground. After a rain get them out with a hatchet. Super easy and I did it for years around 6 mature cypress trees, no issues.
