Careful. That shite is damn difficult to kill and certain varieties spread really fast.

My uncle had some black bamboo he bought from somewhere in Alabama.
Very cool, black stalk, green leaves.
But like hubba said ... you will never get rid of it. He buried a tub underground and grew the bamboo there and it still snuck out.

There are 2 types of bamboo, clumping and running. The running bamboo is the type that spreads like crazy and is also the most common type you will find in nurseries. The clumping style won't spread and is what I would plant but they grow more slowly than the running bamboos. Specifically, I would look for the Alphonse Karr variety.
Here is a Bamboo Nursery 60 miles north of new orleans. I don't have direct experience with them but they have an informative web site.

You do not want bamboo.
There are plenty of other plants that can block views, etc.
Bamboo will shoot runners up 20-30 feet away from the host plant.
That stuff can take over a small yard in a matter of a few growing seasons

This will be the biggest regret of your life.

Get graceful clumping bamboo and you will be good.
No clue where you live but a place outside of Houston called Texas bamboo has it.

As others have said, under no circumstances should you plant running bamboo.
Had it on both sides of the house at my wife's old house when I first moved in with her. Every single spring it was a several week battle to knock down the new shoots. The runners had spread through the entire acre yard.
frick every dealing with that shite again.

Get some Carolina sapphires. I blocked the apartments behind my house. They grow pretty fast and I think look better than the typical Cyprus privacy trees.

There's a guy in florida I buy from. You're fine with the clumping type.

It is invasive and damn near impossible to get rid of. Plant at your own risk

Buy from someone who knows WTH they have so you get clumping and enjoy the privacy. Someone posted a link to bamboo gardens on the northshore, there is a place in NOLA that does bamboo too. Not sure where you are.

Near the rural life museum off of essen. Before you get to the museum there is a large pond on the left. Behind that pond there is a large thicket of bamboo.

And that's how you get running bamboo and have bamboo battles every year until you move, or die....

True that, but it will do a good job of accomplishing OPs goal.

You really have to make sure you want it. It will spread and never go away. Nearly impossible to get rid of without excavation of 3’ of earth

Baw you'd better plant cedars or VA pines, that shite can get out of hand in a hurry and you'll NEVER get rid of it.

DON'T DO IT!!!
This is what that shite looks like when you start trying to dig it up. My neighbor did something you're talking about and it ran under my fence and started popping up in my yard. Unless you have some baby pandas - do something different.
