I’m enclosing an outdoor area into a small interior room. This outdoor area is brick and has weep holes. I’d like to plug up those weep holes so pests can’t crawl into the external weep hole then make their way into the house through these. What should I use for that?

I'm a little confused.

Have you had a problem with the current setup?

Closing in the area would likely minimize the bug access.

The area is currently outside so I don't care if there are bugs/pests. I am enclosing this area, but the weep holes will still be there which are connected to the weep holes all along the wall. I don't want anything crawling in the weep holes outside, then crawling to this now interior room and coming in. I've had a couple snakes crawl in and out of the weeps holes so I would like to avoid having them crawl out and be inside my house after this enclosure is done

This. You can buy a SS pot scrubbie and cut it up and use the pieces to fill the weep hole.

Better than sealing it up altogther in case moisture needs to weep out.

So you’re leaving the exterior brick as an interior wall in this new setup?

You’ll also have a ton of air leakage if you’re planning to insulate and AC this area. Those weep holes go into the 1” air gap straight into your attic space.

Mesh is a simple solution to the pest problem. However, if you seal the 3 edges with framing (wall tie-ins and ceiling) and not plan to anchor in the brick facade, you won’t have to worry about pests or can seal the weep holes with mortar.

It’s unclear what he’s trying to accomplish to me.

We have this un-used side entry way to our house that currently is just used to store kids outdoor toys. We are looking at putting a wall/window that spans the brick arch to enclose it and I will use it as my study.

Just buy some stainless steel scrubbies unless you're worried about something smaller. I've plugged up a friend's restaurant in the French Quarter with those to keep the rats out. It cuts their gums up and they move on
