I tried spraying the Roundup "Kills weeds not your lawn" on the crabgrass spots in my yard, and it didn't do shite to them. Does anybody have a tried and true method you'd be willing to share?

If i remember right, you need to use a surfactant in addition to a chemical because of the waxy coating. Same deal with clover and such.

What type of grass is first question. Some things will kill your existing turf. I.e. quinclorac will damage your centipede or st aug Burbank works great on Bermuda.

If you are in Louisiana you don’t have crabgrass up yet. You could be talking about Dallas grass if it is just starting to green. Is the grassy weed you are talking about an annual or perennial?

Centipede grass for my lawn.

Ronk, I think you’re right. Had no idea about dallis grass, so I googled and that’s it. I didn’t even know that dallis grass was even a thing, and I’ve been thinking it was crabgrass this whole time. Thank you!

a preemergent called prodiamine 65 wdg has worked well for me.

Every post emergent I've ever used has just pissed it off.

Prodiamine is generic barricade.

Sethoxydim will get rid of it as well as knock out Bahia.

Crabgrass makes a ton of seed so it will continue to come back

If you have Dallis grass in centipede the only way to get rid of it is to dig it or damage your lawn. MSMA and Tribute Total will get rid of Dallis grass but it will kill your centipede as well.

Crabgrass will germinate now through mid April. That is a summer annual. It goes through its whole life cycle in one year. Someone mentioned prodiamine. You can look for Haltz. You can usually find that product in the box stores.

With sethoxydim, make sure to include a heavy dose of surfactant. 2 oz per gallon is my go to when I'm spraying it. I started about a year ago and have knocked 1000 square feet of it down to less than 100. It takes vigilance to get it under control and keep it there. It is a war, not just 1 battle with dallis grass.

The only full proof method that I have found that doesn't impact the health of the good grass is to pull the crabgrass by hand.

8 oz Roundup Concentrate (red top)
8 oz Muriatic Acid
1 Gallon of water

This is my go to weed killer I keep around the house for perimeter spraying. It will kill ANYTHING it touches so watch over spray.

You want crabgrass gone, spray that mix on it.

Tenacity herbicide. Expensive but works well, turns it snow white while killing it.

I put down Lesco 007 pre-emergent. Once in Feb and once again in March. Had great success last year but some did pop up in August. Will probably put down another bag in May. It’s pretty cheap. I live in zone 7a
