What is best to kill stumps?

Make a 3:1 mix of diesel:triclopyr ester (triclopyr 4 or Garlon 4) and brush it on freshly exposed cuts and bark below the cut. Do it before the wound seals just after you cut it.

Use a leaf blower to create a blast furnace and you can torch the whole thing in an hour

I bought some of that stuff that accelerates rotting of the stump. Apply as instructed and it will both kill the stump and cause it to rot in about a year. I think I have about half of it left….you can have it if you want it!

what area are you in?

For killing the stump and stopping new growth, I’ve had better luck treating it right after cutting rather than waiting for it to rot. For bigger stumps, though, I’d just grind them out—it’s much quicker and gets rid of the problem completely.

My man. That's what I've done to a few smaller stumps I had left after cutting some dying trees down. My boys love to help. I give them each a Home Depot bucket and tell them whoever fills it fastest with pine cones and small sticks gets to help light the fire. I pour some gas on the stump and let it sit while they are gathering, then we make a big pile of kindling on top, and then they stand back and throw a burning pine cone onto the pile. Usually takes them a few throws to hit the target. I'm right there with the hose ready to go, but I always soak the ground around the stump first. Last fall one of them asked if we could make smores. I'm like no you idiot, that's gasoline burning off right now.
