What is best to kill stumps?

Just had some Hackberry trees cut down and my neighbor had a formosa tree (sp?) as well. What can I put on the stumps to kill them so nothing grows back?

Make a 3:1 mix of diesel:triclopyr ester (triclopyr 4 or Garlon 4) and brush it on freshly exposed cuts and bark below the cut. Do it before the wound seals just after you cut it.

Then wait a few weeks and burn them...safely. More holes drilled in them all the way around the base and top to create air tunnels. Make sure you drill below ground. Soak in kerosene. Light. Keep an extinguisher nearby.
Bonus: A lot of fun for a pyro like me.
Note: Don't do this in dry weather, next to houses or fences, etc.

Use a leaf blower to create a blast furnace and you can torch the whole thing in an hour

I bought some of that stuff that accelerates rotting of the stump. Apply as instructed and it will both kill the stump and cause it to rot in about a year. I think I have about half of it left….you can have it if you want it!

Accellerate DIY. One thing that slows stump rotting is nitrogen limitation. The bacteria and fungus doing the decomposition don't find much of the needed nitrogen in the wood. Mix forest topsoil 1:1 with a slow release high nitrogen fertilizer. Drill holes and fill. Keep wet in dry weather like this.
You get exactly the same nitrogen limitation from the layer of wood chips a stump grinder leaves behind. As that decomposes nitrogen is exhausted and decomposition slows/stops. Keep adding slow release nitrogen until grass can grow into the area. For a large stump expect 2+ years of special attention.
