Since the flood of 16 it’s been an ongoing battle. Last year it was kept in control. This year? It’s everywhere. Front. Back. I’d have to spray my entire yard every week. I’m about to say eff it

Are you treating it at all in April and May?
I’ve found that to be the key.

What herbicide(s) are using? And as stated, you need to spray it when it is young and immature, when it first emerges, April & May, with follow up sprays as needed at 3 week intervals. If you are waiting until it’s mature & producing flowers you are spinning your wheels. Learn to ID it when young.

It does. Needs multiple applications in my experience but it does kill it. Just be prepared for your desired turf to be stunted for quite a while.

The problem I've seen with using Celsius in the same areas often as mentioned is it stunts growth and then it's as if those areas become susceptible to other weeds. It's a delicate balance.

I use MSM and a surfactant. I'll say you must be dedicated to be successful at controlling VBW.. Spray your entire yard f you have a good bit of it. You will, then need to re-apply in 6-8 weeks. You can probably just spot spray after that. Good luck!

Took me 3yrs to get on top of mine I occasionally see I once in a while. I hit with msm immediately. Don’t pull it you got to stay on top of it

As most everyone is stating it really takes patience & persistence. Though I personally never had a serious issue with VBW, I would spray the patches I had 2 or 3 times a year with MSM Turf with surfactant (before I was aware of Celsius which I also use now), focusing on when it first emerged, and after 3 years it’s rare for me to see it. Fertilome Weed Free Zone (Trimec + carfentrazone) with surfactant is also effective but you must use it when air temps are below 85 F, spring & fall.

Last year we had such drought conditions during summer I think many weeds weren’t as manifested as they are this summer with the consistent rainfall we’ve this summer to this point - this might explain the proliferation you are seeing this year compared to last.

I definitely think the rain this year vs last year has been the issue.

I want to spray mine, but feel like I can’t even get a solid 12 hours without rain falling …VBW loves rain and moisture.

I’ve used MSM and sticker spreader from Cleggs and also done the “pull it out” method. I will say it usually comes back when you pull it but is much smaller and more manageable at that point. I gently unthread it when I pull it and try to get it by the roots if possible. Super frustrating though.

I have had good success with MSM and 24D. I had a ton and these days only spot treat.

I sprayed MSM a few weeks back and I feel like it didn’t even put a dent in it I feel like. I’ll do about round after a cut grass this week. I feel like it’s spread even more since I sprayed

I too had some issues with button weed in my current home several years back. I finally gave up, dug up what "lawn" was underneath it. Then nuked the area with MSM and round up. Waited a week. And put in sod.

It's a PAIN!!! Good Luck

VBW has 4 ways of reproducing-spreading - above ground stolons, underground rhizomes, above ground seeds, below ground seeds. One of the reasons it’s so difficult to control-keep in check.

I do the same. It's always shocking how much you end up with that you couldn't see. I'll see one lil leaf and end up with a pile of it from under the grass.

Most of the time just by staying on top of Virginia Buttonweed by pulling it and properly applying weed and feed regularly keeps it at bay. Massive pain in the arse one way or another. I spend at least 10-15 minutes every week walking my lawn pulling it. Generally by July/August my St Augustine is established enough to crowd it out.
