Is this a reasonable expectation? Looking in BR. Recommendations would be great!

Lowe's or Tractor Supply
I bought the cheapest 5x8 at Lowe's about 10 years ago & have had no problems w the trailer. Only complaint is you having to use a 1 7/8" ball to tow it.

Buying new or used?
Obligatory: 5x8 is a very small trailer. Going 5x10 is not that much more.
Reference: I bought new 5x10 in 2017 from Mike Geralds for $1700 OTD. Included several upgrades like spare tire.

I’ve had a few and the prices soared during and after Covid. They’ve come down a little. I’d recommend 15” tires and 2 inch receiver for the minimum and probably 5x10 as minimum size if you are ever going to be out on highway or interstate.

I'm sure you have something special in mind to carry on such a small trailer, but just know that getting the weight distribution is critical on such a small trailer or it's fishtail city.
Consider something slightly larger that maybe will serve your purpose just as well and be useful for something else occasionally.

Thank you for all your suggestions! Points well taken and I will update once I head out to Mikes and Denham.

Been knowing Mike for years, use to ride and race motorcycles with him, in our younger years.

Trailers have skyrocketed since 2015

Then you may have known my brother. He and Mike were close and started racing at Carols together. My brother raced a stripped down Suzuki 100, but was still street legal, for 1 or 2 seasons then got married.
I think my brother was still working at Ray Loflin motors at the time. Used to come home with some cool bikes.

I remember Carol, I got a list of folks that we all rode and raced with. Motocross, Hare Scrambles, Enduros, just a little bit of everything. In my younger days, I did machinist work. We retooled a Yamaha bike for Mike. Yamaha wanted to compete with Harley in the twin engine races. The half mile tracks and all.
Mike use to go up to Chipola with a bunch of us folks. Going to get BBQ at Skinny’s then going across the street to the Pines Bar. The good ole days.

The last time I saw Mike and Brother Tommy, a few years back, at Pocorellos. Good folks.

Did he by the Suzuki from Sid’s In BTR. If he did Kip sold them.

Have you checked FB marketplace? A lot of people buy trailers and then realize they need the cash or just don't need the trailer.
I bought a 6x12 for like $700. I just looked and I see a bunch of 5x8 trailers for under $1000.

6.5 ft x 10 ft at Hills Equipment in Livingston is $2100. It also has 3500# axles. Much nicer and heavier than the tractor supply or Lowe’s trailers.

I'd buy a well build used one before i'd buy one from Lowes or Tractor Supply.

Home Depot's used "COMMERCIAL" trailers are better than anything new that they sell for around $1100 for a 5x8. Very high quality but hard to find. They get their commercial stuff from Anderson trailers.
ETA: They are hard to fine. You have to keep looking and you will probably have to travel at least 75 miles to find one unless you get lucky. They are listed on line.
