Anderson and Lesco. I have a 50lb Anderson and an 80lb Lesco. They do make a 50lb Lesco but I don't have one of those. Both brands are really top notch but I prefer the Anderson.

Anderson spreader
Lesco spreader

Echo RB-60 is also very popular and universally recommended as a Scott’s alternative.

At that pricetag, that thing should be a robot that does the fertilizing itself...haha

i gave my scott spreader away about 3 months ago because i didnt' need it at my house (on a hill and the soil was always moist) and then we up and move

but having said that, i didn't have any issues with it. i would put weed/feed in it and set the dial and walk around the yard.

what exactly sucks about a scott spreader?

There are a lot of different Scott's spreaders. I have the Elite and it works great at a dramatically more reasonable price than the other suggestions here.

I have no issues with uneven distribution or fert trails. It's been very consistent for 3 seasons now.

I have a drop Scott spreader that I really had no issues with but I have started using the handheld below. I can see where the fertilizer is going.

That spreader is 8 years old. I've had to replace one cotter pin in the drive wheel. That spreader has done over 10,000 yards. I know almost no one will buy that for doing just their own lawn.

I do suggest the Lesco 50lb spreader for about $300 though. As long as you clean it out after every use it will last you until your knees hurt too much to fertilize your own yard.

I get that. But I’d assume 99.999% of people on here are shopping for a spreader to use 3-4 times a year in their own yard. I’ve had my cheap Scott’s one from Home Depot for 4 years and it still works. And it costed like 30 bucks

I believe the issue with cheap spreaders is just that the "spreader" is not above the wheels or high enough above the wheels, and the wheels are cheap and don't rotate smoothly. So you end up with poor rotation and uneven spreading occasionally.

Where as a bigger, taller, and better wheel model has a really nice even spread.

I have the Echo60 and like it except for the fact that it is very taxing on the forearm because you have to hold the lever open while using.

Had the top of the line Scotts and it was horrible. Purchased an Agri-fab 85 lb and I really like it. A little tricky to assemble but well worth it.

Earthway spreaders are very good and affordable.

I had it and didn't like it. I found it hard to get properly calibrated.

This. Got mine for $88 a few weeks ago, looks like the best price on them now is $119. Good quality for the price.
