Self propelled push mower recs

My toro 21” self propelled mower sucks. Looked at Honda at K&D in BR but they aren’t selling their current stock due to a manufacturer defect. They carry the Masport line that look nice but oven never hard of. Snapper is only selling battery powered now and I want a gas powered machine. I had good luck with Craftsman years ago but since Sears is no more, I won’t buy the new Craftsman mowers they sell at Lowe’s. Need recs plz

I have a Toro self propelled and am fine with it. What is it that sucks, in your opinion? I mean, its a lawn mower. In what way is it not performing?

Every year before I use my zero turn I bag my grass with my self propelled a few cuts. I go almost a full year in between cranks and the Troy Bilt fires up right away. It had a 5 solid years of using it weekly. I think it has a Honda motor though, I'll double check when I get home. My mom had the same mower and never had a single issue.

Masport makes a good mower, just FYI. We sell a bunch of them and rarely see them back in the shop.

Good to hear. Was starting to o worry that when my Honda craps out there will be no gas options. My neighbor was cutting with his $1200 Milwaukee at the same time I was with my $400 Honda. His yard is smaller and it took him 3 times as long.

It used to self propel very strong, now the wheels barely move. Took it to a certified Toro mechanic and he couldn’t get them to go faster. That was only about a year into it. The thing also leaks oil like crazy- never had any mower that leaked so much. Also I have to change the filter often- I’ve never had to do that so much before. Very disappointing all the way around.

My EGO electric works very well. I hardly broke a sweat this summer. Light weight, self propelled, powerful, and quiet.

HD sells a Cub Cadet with the commercial Kohler engine for $679.

Cub Cadet reviews aren’t great but I’ll take a look

Disappointed in my toro as well. Only had
It for 3 years
Never had carburetor issues on any mower in my life. Last 2 years ive had to work on it
The height adjustments take a lot of effort to move

Toro Timemaster owner here. OT recommended I buy it. Think it's 30+ inch? I think I'm closing on on 10 yrs. It is the most expensive walk behind I've ever purchased (next to the missus), and it's been good to me (kinda like the missus). No pics of either.

Funny enough, I bought a Craftsman mower from Sears a few years ago that completely shite the bed. Going on my second summer with a Craftsman M210 purchased from Lowes right now with ZERO problems. I'm very happy with it. I just made sure to buy a Craftsman mower with a Briggs and Stratton engine this time.

Have a 6 yr old Honda I've beaten the piss out of. This year was the first I've done any maintenance. Carb needed help, new blades, first oil change, air filter tune up stuff. Easy start and self propels as good as ever.

I was in the market for a Honda push mower in June. They took them off the shelves at Lowes and Home Depot. Bought an EGO and it has been a great purchase. No maintenance. Lightweight. Easy to move the deck up and down with one hand. I can cut my front and back and still have about 2 bars left. Bought the string trimmer and that fricker is powerful.
I fully endorse EGO products. And I’m not one to hype electric equipment or vehicles.

I have all the ego accessories, besides the mower. I just use the blower though. Much prefer my echo trimmer that I bought used for $75.

Yeah, pretty much anything equipped with basic B&S or MTD engines is just going to be a throw-away in a few seasons. My Honda is running great after 7 seasons, bought a bunch of OEM maintenance parts and if the engine does go out I'm going to drop a Kawasaki or Kohler engine on the deck and keep going.

I have a Poulan with a Honda Motor. About 10 years on it I believe I got it at Costco. Great reliable engine. I just ordered a new blade today. I tend not to use the self propel feature much but it works fine.
I also have a Honda HRX 217. I bought it used for about $100. Motor has been great and it has the non metal deck that has also been good. Minimal maintenance on both. Just ordered a new start assembly for this one ($14.00) I think this one does best to pick up clippings and leaves with the to part mulching blade. You might look around to see if you can find a used one. I think they are super durable so if you find one a few years old it will last.
Between the 2 of them in 10 years, I have replaced a throttle cable, air fileter one or twice, and never changed the oil. I keep telling myself this will be the year that happens.

Craftsman, Cub Cadet, Yard machine, Yard man, Troy-bilt, and MTD line is now made by Stanley Black and Decker outdoors. They are made at the Tupelo, MS plant. Craftsman and at one time Troy-bilt when it was the main line in Lowes, all the engine decisions were made by Lowes. Briggs would cut Lowes a check to sell x amount of motors and they told MTD now Stanley Black and Decker Outdoor Power what to put on the units.
At this point with less and less gas powered mfg's in the market, if you find a gas engine one that fits your needs buy it.
Unfortunately, battery powered will eventually take over.
