Would you spend $100 on a repairman to try and fix it or just call it a loss and replace it? Leaning towards replacing since it’s 16 years old, but I welcome other thoughts.
Will likely be $500 when done

It’s a builder grade GE- probably exactly what I’ll replace it with if that’s the route I end up going
I'm going Bosch the next time I have to get a dishwasher.

Has divorce been mentioned yet?

New ones are quiet and have nice things like the third row rack … but take 3 hours to wash your dishes and then they aren’t even dry

then turn off the water and disconnect it to see if there is a screen there blocked up with crap if all that check out its time to test the solenoid is getting power, but that means you need to be comfortable dealing with live electricity
This was as far as I got- I couldn’t the the copper pipe out to check and see if anything was blocking.
I draw the line at live electricity. I’m not THAT handy or experienced

Fix it. The new one will just be a dish rinser that breaks in five years or less.
And doesn't dry worth a damn. My girlfriend was lamenting that the dishwasher in her new apartment was old. She couldn't believe how quick and how well it washed and about fainted when she didn't have to dry every dish.

just spend $600-800 for a new one?
Paid $800 for a new one after the flood in '16. Paid $500 for a new one in '22. Had $150 or so in repairs in the 2016 model. Control board. It went out the second time is why it's gone.

Same. I bought a new Whirlpool from Lowes and it worked ok for about 2 years. We just don't use the dishwasher anymore.

This. It’s a shame how crappy the quality of today’s appliances is. All flash, very little function.

you would need to slide the whole machine out to get to it.
odds are low its a water issue
odds are higher its a bad solenoid or the control board not turning it on.
honestly i would say just go buy a new one and not waste money to have someone look at it and then tell you its gonna cost $250 to fix it plus the service call
without moving anything, you can check the hot water shut off tap at the kitchen sink, that is where most dishwashers get water connection from. you can confirm the water us going to it

If you cannot fix it yourself, just replace it.
Posted on 1/21/24 at 3:18 pm to LSUGUMBO
I would fix it. Like someone else mentioned, it will last a lot longer than a new one. I would get the part from Amazon......I got a part for mine that was 5o bucks all over the internet for 18 bucks off Amazon and it's an OEM part!

Google the model and it should tell u what to do. Dishwashers are easy.

You have to take the bottom panel at the floor to disconnect water and electricity..., 2 screws usually. There are 2 screws anchoring to the cabinet to pull it out.

Most dishwashers are hard wired direct to power.

i can answer the question just by reading the subject line. Replace is the answer.

I use paper plates. They don’t do well in a dishwasher

We mostly do too. Probably a little bit trashy, but sure does cut down on dishes

Plumber buddy says it’s either buildup in the water line or it’s a bad solenoid.
I had a bad fill solenoid on one late last year, fixed it for ~$20. I think it took me 45 minutes all in and the only PITA was getting my hands into the tight place to do it without pulling it out and flipping it on its side which would have taken a lot more time. With all the online parts houses along with Amazon and eBay and YouTube, I haven't paid an appliance repair person in over 12 years. It isn't just the money to pay them it is the pain to have someone home when they come out which costs use a heck of a lot more than what they charge in money and trouble.
