Yeah, we looked at fiberglass. We went With gunite cause of an odd shaped yard, with some servitude’s. The only way to get good size was going gunite. Pool prices were largely about the same, but we added fountain and 8 foot hot tub to ours.
My neighbors will be swimming in our pool often, so they can get over the big trucks for a few days.

I'm just going by years of what I've seen.
That's why I never got one.
But good for you and your dumb take.

You can’t be poor and lazy AND own a pool. If you’re neither then having a pool is awesome. I grew up with one. My first house I bought on my own didn’t have one and after the first 6 months I knew I wanted a pool. A few years later when I was ready to build on my lot the first meeting I had was with a pool contractor so I could design my house around it.
It’s been 11 years now and I don’t have a single regret. My family is in the pool from April-October.

You’re consistently a very stupid person with moronic points. The fact that you’re a scumbag liberal cannot be a coincidence.

It’s great watching the kids swim with their friends. Also really cool bonding times when we are all just hanging out in the pool.
But my selfish favorite has to be LSU game day poolside, in and out, also manning the grill in between, for many hours at a time. And the days lately when I recreate on the weekends.

So, you have never owned a pool yet feel compelled to tell others about how much trouble they are? Hot take, fool.

We put off a pool for years, but pulled the trigger a few months ago and a fiberglass is currently being installed.
The low interest rates tipped the scale, so we did a refi and cash out and our monthly budget was not impacted.
We had 4 quotes done with varying types, liner, gunite, and fiberglass. Went with fiberglass due to low maintenance, 25 year warranty, we are not real picky about design, and we live on 10 acres of land, plenty of space.
Our contractor has 5 pools on his schedule behind ours and our install is currently 75% complete.
A few family and friends have requested he give them a quote, but he's saying he will not get to them until the fall.
We've had plenty of weather delays, and he's had crew and supply issues due to high demand for pools and associated labor. Fill material is running late, concrete finishers are booked, etc, etc... It's a trickle down affect...
Good luck on the build, but prepare yourself for delays.

who did you get quotes from? I'm starting the same process so I'm curious how everyone is stacking up.

Has anyone here done business with Poolmasters/Grassmasters out of Gonzales? Any relatable experiences would be helpful. Thanks.
Roy did my landscaping. Real nice guy and easy to work with. I can't speak to his pool work at all, but I was satisfied with the landscaping & drainage work he did.

I was about to ask why but Googled their name and found the story on WBRZ.
I have no experience at all with Precision and don't know them, but that story is kinda messed up. There seem like a few things that could be done better. The work looks a little on the sloppy side. However, they have a torpedo level on the pool deck. The pool deck is supposed to sloped to drain. It isn't supposed to be level. Also, concrete cracks. Either accept that or put down something like tile to hide it. They also show the torpedo level on stone. Get a longer level and or straight edge and show something that is relevant. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't accept that patch job either. But I don't see how the deep end is not 6" shallower than it is supposed to be.
On another note folks... when you are getting quotes, toss out the cheapest one.

Poolmasters/Grassmasters out of Gonzales
My next door neighbor (who is foriegn and claims to not speak english very well) hired Grassmasters to build a 6 ft. privacy fence. I come home from work and noticed that they have set the posts 2 ft. over the property line. I confronted his contractor about this. Grassmasters told me that he set the posts where his customer told him to set them. I asked Grassmasters if they checked the survey stakes to verify where the property lines run (which I thought was standard practice)..they told me "No"
Based in that experience alone I doubt I would hire that company to do ANYTHING for me

stealth is correct. pool maintenance can be done easily by the homeowner and most things are incredibly cheap to replace..even a new sand filter which lasts forever is only about $500 to replace.
buy a $15 chemical testing kit at the start of the season and test every couple days and your pool mostly takes care of itself.
even if you neglect it and have an algae bloom that can be corrected in a couple weeks with just a little extra chlorine and elbow grease.
private pools are like gold during this pandemic b/c nobody wants to get in a public pool with a bunch of strangers.

My contractor said this is the busiest summer the industry has had in over a decade.
I heard on the news on the radio that pool sales are at an all time high. They said basically people couldn't travel this spring/summer, so they said frick it, we'll just make our home more enjoyable.

Anyone that has a pool and kids was probably using the hell out of it during quarantine.
Crystal Pools is a company i used to recommend when i was in residential landscape design. They are good people with very fair pricing. Kevin who owns it now is a great guy. His dad started the company and was one of the first pool builders in south LA. If they've stayed in business this long, they do it the right way.
I'm not a fiberglass or liner fan. I like the classic gunite and plaster. It just looks better imo.
s i always told my clients. Pools are always a good investment if you have the reason for usage. If you are in a house you don't plan on spending more than 5-7 years in, don't put one in. If you are spending 10 plus years in and you know you will use it, it's worth it.

read what i wrote above.
public pools are nasty; some removed all the pool furniture because they cant afford to spray down the chairs after every person gets up..and private pools are the shite right now because you aren't bathing with strangers.

About four years ago I put in a liner pool, simply based on cost. When I started pricing out Gunite vs fiberglass vs liner swimming pools, I couldn't justify the cost. My wife on the other hand, wishes we put a gunite pool in. We put in a liner pool for about 50% of the cost of a gunite pool.

OP, don't listen to that fig, Clark14. I have a 21k gallon gunite that is surrounded by trees. Got a good pool robot and my maintenance time is about 10 minutes per day of netting, emptying skimmers, and adding chemicals.
On the weekends, I pour myself a strong arse rum drink, toss some meat on the grill, get the tunes playing, and break out the Taylor test kit while I'm swimming to make sure my water readings are right. It's great.
