We are about ready to pull the trigger on a pool, and have been getting quotes.
Has anyone here done business with Poolmasters/Grassmasters out of Gonzales? Any relatable experiences would be helpful. Thanks.

If you don't have a pool and can afford to have one installed, do yourself the biggest favor of your life and don't.

We started one in June, not with that company. Assuming you doing gunite and you are in the BR area I wouldn’t plan on swimming until late September. There are only two gunite trucks in the area and they are backed up. The back log along with a 28 day cure for gunite is why I’m saying September. But hey in the south I’d imagine you still have days in November you could use

I agree, just a hole full of water waiting to be filled in with dirt in the future.

Wait until Winter. They’re so backed up right now it’s crazy. Prices will be high, materials will be sold out, and subs will be late. They’ll be hungrier in the winter, and it can be ready for spring.

GW Oliver is very good.

I don’t get all of the people stating “don’t get a pool”. Sure there is cost associated with them and maintenance, but I love having a pool. A great investment in family time.

Pool contractors are some of the weirdest dynamic I’ve ever seen.

EVERY contractor seems to have a dedicated following satisfied customers, along with several loud horrendous reviews encouraging them to “NEVER” be used.

There doesn’t seem to be any consensus whatsoever on pool contractors. Most other contractors disciplines there’s at least some level of consensus that X and Y are the best guys (or have a very good reputation).

After a crap ton of research and talking to a lot of people, we are doing a fiberglass pool. Not really saving anything by doing the fiberglass but easier to maintain, and cheaper to heat and cool. Some of the people I've spoken to, can't start till next year because of back up. None of the gunite people mentioned a gunite shortage. One of the fiberglass people mentioned a gunite shortage but I figured it was propaganda to steer me away from gunite. Guess it was legit.

All of this. If you’re starting the process today it’s going to be Oct-Nov before it’s done. My contractor said this is the busiest summer the industry has had in over a decade.

Maybe wait until off season and you’ll get a better deal? Not sure if that’s a thing.

I was about to ask why but Googled their name and found the story on WBRZ. Thanks for the info. That's one of the companies that my wife couldn't get a response from.

Yep, I get that it's not for everyone. We are empty nesters in our late 40s,and semi retired. I'm sure the kids will love and appreciate it, but we really want it for ourselves. We will be in this house for another 5 to 10 years. If it turns out the pool was a mistake, then we move sooner, lol.

I like getting a good deal but I'm not about waiting. It probably means a 10k to 15k difference I'm figuring, but it is what it is. A year sooner of swimming and enjoying the pool is worth that to me. If it all comes down to being money well spent, then I might as well not do it and buy a nicer headstone for when I assume room temperature.

I would say if you signed a contract today for gunite pool they may get It done by end of the year. We are waiting on gunite now in BR area. They are supposed to try this weekend, but with weather this weekend I doubt it.

Our builder doesn’t have a new dig date till end of October, and that is without weather delays. We signed our contract in April, and original dig date was July 2nd but that got pushed cause of weather.

Good luck with the process!

Dumb take. As a pool owner, they are not difficult to maintain.

Then wait until winter. You don’t want a muddy hole in your backyard sitting for weeks waiting on a gunite crew to show up. Talk about needing lots of patience! If things are slow in the winter, it won’t bother you as much.

I can vouch for this. We signed our contract in May, had gunite sprayed June 16th. They haven’t done a thing since. They say this is the busiest year ever. Waiting for coping and tile to be installed and don’t have any idea when that’s gonna happen. We may get to swim in September but I’m not counting on it.

Part of the consideration in deciding on a fiberglass pool, is that long time timeline. Biggest issue is that our quiet little gated community is the type that everyone is super nice and friendly, but 2-3 months of big truck traffic, and sidewalks torn up during construction, we'll be making a lot of enemies, lol. Fiberglass companies were talking 10 day install time if it doesn't rain before, and during installation, which of course we know will happen. Realistically they said 3 weeks. Still beats 3 months or longer. Thanks brother. Good look with yours too.
