People cutting through front yard. Any cause for concern?

We recently moved to a new neighborhood and now live on a corner lot. We don't have sidewalks in the new hood, and I've seen people cut through our yard several times in order to avoid cars at the intersection.

I'm not trying to be a grinch and I really don't mind people cutting through from a personal standpoint. We do have two large trees with big roots, and I'm worried someone could trip and we'd be liable. Is this even a valid concern?

You probably have 300k of liability coverage on your homeowners insurance already.

Your homeowners liability policy will cover some. But may want to have an umbrell policy.

I have the same situation and do not mind the traffic usually. Just part of the neighborhood.

Sounds like an ideal situation for a moat.

Surely you’re not liable for trespassers. Right?

Put small diameter stone in the area. Your grass will grow through it and it will hold up to traffic.

I live on a corner lot and had to put out 2 to 3 ft mini boulders to keep idiots from driving in my yard. Every few months I will find paint or pieces of plastic from them hitting it and in 10 years nobody has said a word.

A guy near us had a similar issue. His yard stayed rutted up. Then he drove sucker rods in the ground at angles, like a punji stick trap for cars. Not sure if he had any victims, but word must have reached those who were causing the problem. He took them up years ago, but people don’t drive through that yard anymore.
