I don’t think that’s a thing but could be wrong.

used to get hot cutting grass and just feel hot all damn day in our summers. Nothing sucks that heat out of you like a 30 minute soak right after mowing. My buddy at work has a pool and he spends almost all day in it on the weekends. I use mine in 45 minute bursts because I'm a busy body. On the weekends, I'll get up, have breakfast, do some chores and get in for a while. Get out for lunch. Run errands. More projects. Back in for a swim in the heat of the day. Then I will often get in after dark for a night time swim. It totally enhances my summer days. Some people it defines their summer days. Totally different use but both awesome.

That’s how you do it - incorporate into your leisure time.
Put up a TV with a cool movie, concert or soon football game on and make the whole area a hangout. And sometimes it’s just me
Pool parties for the kids are priceless and fun memories.

I voluntarily raised my insurance coverage by the value of the pool and it cost me under $50/year. no other impact on my insurance.

Resale value (if you ever plan on moving) will also be massive.

I thank the Lord above that my wife ,who grew up with a pool, is not interested in one.

Personally, I just feel the cost/ maintenance, etc. just wouldn't be justified for 4 months' or less use a year.

To each their own.
If both of you want one, go for it.

I went through the quote process last year and a fairly basic pool with needed retaining wall came out to $93K. $93K.

I thanked the guy for his time and moved on. Apparently people are getting 20yr loans for pools.

It’s shockingly expensive. Our timing was great. We inked the deal at the early stages of Covid and instead of moving investment money out, we did a refi for 2.5%. We came out at $58 with a heater and a lot of extra decking. It was a tough decision and one that is obviously very situational.

We ended up loving it (and the area it created) for us well above expectations. My absolute favorite is jumping in when I finish doing the yard work in 100f summer weather.

I wouldn’t finance 100k for 20 years but…adding it to your note via HELOC or refinance isn’t a terrible idea. Either you want a pool or you don’t. It’s a massive structural and infrastructure improvement to your home, no different (and probably more expensive) than a similarly sized building addition.

if you just want a big hole full of water, a pond is cheaper LOL

We built ours in 2020, started in Dec before Covid thank goodness.

We looked at homes with a pool and never found anything we liked better than our current place so we built one. My wife is in that thing every evening when the weather is nice enough. Upkeep is minimal during the Summer, never understand the complaint of the maintenance. Fall sucks for about 2 weeks when leaves are falling (we keep pool open year round).

This is very close to my situation. The only downside to having a pool is we have young kids and they are spoiled by being able to swim when they want. When we take trips, the hotel pool needs to have slides or other feature or they aren't interested in it. I guess another downside is I keep my pool crystal clear and now every public pool looks filthy to me.

Also, if you have kids how many friends do they have now, because that number will grow exponentially if you put in a pool once word gets out. Are you and the wife ready for "Pool Parties" from people you already know who don't have a pool and think nothing of inviting themselves over??? Add in the cost of putting in a pool, the cost of routine maintenance and the cost of upkeep and repair down the road------plus the raise in your homeowner's insurance because you now have what they consider an "Attractive Nuisance" on your property---------------cha-ching, cha-ching......

Insurance had no such thing for me. They had a fence requirement. And the cost of replacement added to policy. Went up like 75 bucks a year

the biggest expense I have w the pool is feeding high school athletes. They pop in after practices or to hang out. I just keep those 18 packs of frozen hamburger patties and hot dogs on hand at all times. But it is nice to see the pool used like we hoped

Buy some Speedos and walk around the house in them. Tell her you cannot wait for the pool.

We had a pool a couple of houses ago. The kids loved it and it even had an old school diving board that was grandfathered in when the city outlawed them. The neighborhood kids loved it. Lots of trees around it made it tough to maintain but it also created great shaded areas.

The pool guy we used kept some chemicals in the cab of his truck and got in a bad accident one day. He was knocked unconscious and died from the chemicals that got blasted all over the cab. Don’t travel with chemicals in your vehicle.

We sold the house and the new owners supposedly spent thousands in repairs on the liner and decking so be sure to get a good inspection if you buy a house with a pool.

There are lots of stories of pool builders ripping people off so do a ton of homework before you choose one - the best ones will probably have a waiting list before they get to you.

I detect some sarcasm. The pool has a very nice diving board.

Im writing this from my pool. Couldn’t live without one. After 10-15 years depending on upkeep you will have some tough decisions to make. I’m DIY crazy so did it cheap but you could also basically end up buying a new pool.
Also, spa is worth double what a pool is. Longer season. Can even use in summer at mower temp. We use spa more than pool.
If I move back to northern Missouri I’d do above ground, but in the south, that’s kinda tacky.

Try and buy a house that has a pool. Pools have gotten outrageously expensive to build. We are in ours pretty much everyday. With some nice landscaping, you can have your own paradise to relax in.

This is the smart money advice!

It’s been mentioned, once the equipment gets to be about 10 years old, upkeep may get more demanding. It’s all pretty easy if you’re handy. If not, it will be very expensive. Pump, motor, filter, valves, lights, maybe some moderate electrical stuff on the motor, some easy plumbing. All things I’ve done diy troubleshooting, repair, rebuild, replacement work on in the past 5 years.

Bought a house with a pool, still a huge pain in the azz, cost $130 or more a month for " the pool guy". Don't do it.
